Member Discounts! Where do you want 'em?

Here are the businesses that currently offer discounts to Bike Pittsburgh members: Member Discount List

What would you like to see added to that list? We want to give you the membership perks you want and keep local too.

We'll also be distributing BikePGH register/window tags at the shops in the next couple of weeks to remind you to use your discounts!

Nicholas Coffee Co

I tried to think of more places, but the only places I frequent are coffeehouses.

Man, that's a good list.

How do I get my company on there?

Even though I always forget to use my discount, I second Arsenal. Gives me another reason to give them my money.

+1 on Nicholas Coffee. Other downtown places would be great too - Las Velas or other downtown food spots.

Edited to remove Franktuary. Didn't realize it's already on the list - yay!

Spak brothers Quiet Storm

On the list, it says Iron City gives 15% off maintenance and repaits, but have only ever given 10% off parts. Which I bring up to say, many businesses don't remember what their perks are.

andymoore44

I second EEFC and Quiet Storm.

+1 on Spak.

This may be a silly question, but the BikeTek discount says 15% off everything - does that actually include bikes? That would be amazing and affect a possible purchase in the coming months.

i bought a bike for my gf over the summer, and that was probably the number one reason i chose them (though if they didn't have the right bike, it wouldn't have mattered). by itself, it more than paid for both of our memberships.

I regularly use the discount at Trekofpgh and OTB... I should send them a thank you note or something.

D's, Square Cafe, everywhere in Regent Square for that matter.

These are great! Anywhere you want a discount that isn't food related?

beccameadow

Pittsburgh Filmmakers & Southside Works screenings?

pseudacris

how about a free subscription to bicycle times or something cool like that?

pratt

Carnegie Museums, Carnegie Science Center, Pittsburgh Pirates, Pittsburgh Steelers, Pittsburgh Penguins, Pittsburgh Zoo, Mr. Small's, Brillobox, Club Cafe, Big Pour.

dmtroyer
2012-02-14 14:06:12

I second/third/whatever the requests for EEFC!

I would also be interested in discounts for Regent Square places like Square Cafe.

I wish I remembered to ask about these discounts more often. I find myself in Iron City all the time but have never remembered to check to see whether I could get a BikePGH discount there. Whoops.

2012-02-14 17:29:21

Espresso A Mano (they could step it up and match Tazza D'Oro)

Big Dog Coffee

Commonplace Coffee House

61C Cafe

Blue Horse Coffee (Mt.Leb)

FountainHead Cafe (Monaca, near the upcoming Ohio River Trail)

FarmHouse Coffee (McMurray, on the Montour Trail)

(please, and thank you very much!)

my thinking is that if the slightly more out-of-downtown places were to offer the discount, even if only a few people biked there we'd be expanding bicycle advocacy into the exurbs. Doing good via discounts, n'at.

They get good karma AND good Google (links to their website, their Facebook, their blog, right?) with no money down, and they get pseudo-cred from a BikePgh sticker at the point-of-sale.

And it has to help the businesses that when we're saying WhereToRideToday, they're on the list of Discount Destinations. (and I ride to each of those last three myself)

Can we have a sticky Forum post, Where Did You Discount Today, and people can LINK to the place they got a discount? Lots of SEO benefit comes from that.

I'll stop now. Thanks.

I legitimately can't think of anywhere I shop that is not food related or doesn't already offer a discount.

Maybe the army/navy store on liberty downtown? I buy work pants from there.

Lush Cosmetics in Macy's (also downtown) would be a good one, also.

How about some of the stores along the GAP trail? There is a pizza place in west newton that I stop at almost every time I ride out to cedar creek. There is also a bike shop and a convenience store. Another cool place to get a discount from would be one of the canoe rental places along the trail.

Any of the local coaches? JBV, Global Ride, Steel City Endurance, Up On 2 Wheels, Maestro Cycles?

reddan

I already offered!

mayhew

I'll second the museums, and add the theater stuff (Pgh Cultural Trust? all them downtown type fancy stage theaters). I likes the cultury things.

@ Pratt- I'm so stoked that we're offering all new and renewing members the free Bicycle Times subscription online.

Hey, everyone!

I would love to keep the suggestions coming in.

Are there any businesses you like that benefit from foot or bike traffic? We want to engage them in our work!

Let me know where you would like to use your member discounts, and I will do my best to make it happen.

Aldi’s is currently building one of their grocery stores on Carson street. It would be nice to point out to them how much the new bike corral in front of OTB is being used, and how Whole Foods in Shadyside doesn’t have nearly enough bike parking. This way you can accomplish two tasks (parking & discount) in one conversation. Make sure they are the aproved racks.

How about Big Dog coffee on the Southside

Throw the Friendship Aldi into that mix. I'm guessing it will see a lot of bike traffic.

dmtroyer

oh, and UPMC Health Plan. They should offer incentives for workplaces with people who bike.
