Flock of Cycles is riding to the Science Center!!!!!

We’re meeting at Dippy at *6pm* and departing at 6:30 — and this month we’re ending the ride at the Carnegie Science Center’s aptly-themed “Bikes: Science on Two Wheels” 21+ night!

PLEASE INVITE YOUR FRIENDS!

More details below…

–What is a Bike Party?–

A Bike Party is a welcoming, family-friendly, all-inclusive, FREE event consisting of a leisurely-paced bicycle ride (complete with music and mechanical support) and ending with a post-ride party.

The group pedals through the city at a slow, welcoming pace appropriate for riders of all ages and capabilities. You get a chance to make new friends, learn new routes, and have fun on your bike!

–Where?–

We’ll meet at Dippy the Dino (on Forbes Ave in Oakland, in front of the Carnegie Museum of Natural History, across from the Cathedral of Learning).

–When?–

We’ll meet at 6pm and leave at 6:30pm.

(Won’t be off work in time? We’ll post the route later so that you can catch up with us along the way.)

–How long is the ride?–

Around 8-10 miles.

–What’s the route?–

http://connect.garmin.com/course/3762391

–Where does the ride end?–

This ride will end at Carnegie Science Center’s 21+ Night, which this month just happens to be BIKE-themed! (How perfect, right?) Here’s more info about that event: http://www.carnegiesciencecenter.org/programs/adult-programs-21-plus-night/

Tickets are normally $10 in advance and $15 at the door, but thanks to the kind people at the Science Center, we’ll be able to offer Flock riders the $10 pre-registration price at the door.

They’ll have a cash bar, and snacks will be available for purchase as well.

Note: If you aren’t 21, you are welcome to ride with us as always, but like the “21+” title implies, the post-ride Science Center event is only open to those of legal drinking age. And they will be carding, so don’t forget your ID!

–What should I bring?–

Helmets. Lights. A bike to put those lights on. Cash and your ID. And all your friends!

–What happens in the case of rain/snow/zombie apocalypse?–

On the afternoon of the ride, we’ll decide whether conditions are safe enough to ride. Look for updates here, on Twitter, and on our website a couple of hours before the start of the ride if things are looking sketchy.

I was impressed by the number of women who joined the ride last night. It seemed at the start that there were almost as many as men, which would be a first. I rolled video at the start of the ride, but haven’t reviewed it yet.

At the end, it was still 1:2; I counted 8 and 16.

Women cyclists are an “indicator species”, a measure of how healthy an environment is. For it to even approach being even in number gives me a good feeling and greater hope that we are doing the right thing here in The ‘Burgh.

Meanwhile, here’s part of Marcel’s little pre-ride speech.

That video is embarrassing. I really need to work on my pre-ride speech. Also, whats up with my voice? Do I really sound like that?

videos of the ride:
Part 1
Part 2
Part 3
Part 4
Part 5

I haven’t looked at these myself yet, though I do know I turned them right side up before I uploaded them.

Any problems with them, please let me know.
