The Swinburne Bridge in Pittsburgh’s Greenfield neighborhood will close Wednesday morning for about two months for structural steel repairs, the city Public Works Department announced…

“The work will enable the city to remove the 3-ton weight limit on the nearly century-old bridge.”

Is this really necessary? The roads leading up to the bridge are narrow enough, anything 3 tons or more shouldn’t be there anyways.

They have to fix this bridge so they can blow up the panther hollow one :(

I think they have to maintain it because if they don’t they’ll have to lower the weight limit below three tons. Eventually only cyclists and pedestrians would be allowed to use the bridge. And who would be happy then? The tyrannical bike lobby!

Aren’t they supposed to rebuild this bridge and with it potentially extend the junction hollow trail on to the other side of the train tracks to meet up with the jail trail, bypassing the cattle chute at second ave?

At least that’s the jist of what I got from the movepgh plan for the frazier st bridge reconstruction project.

See Project PB-238

“New trail construction along west side of railroad tracks; would depend on reconstruction of Frazier Street Bridge to create space against western abuttment”
