From Edgar Snyder’s site.

2012 Pennsylvania Bicycle Accident Statistics
•The largest number of bicycle accident injuries occurred at 4-leg intersections (635), but the highest number of deaths occurred at non-intersections (9).

It’s a bit dated, but here’s a paper that looks at the validity of crash statistics & types and the usefulness of bike lanes, etc.

Thanks for the responses. From the Jeffery Hiles paper:

“We can say that motorists overtaking bicyclists accounted for 10.5 percent of the non-fatal crashes in the Cross-Fisher study, so that about nine out of 10 car-bike collisions involved crossing and turning movements. “

IIRC car doors is much more deadlier than cars themselves. And right-left hook are among most often cause of collisions in a city.

Texting wasn’t nearly as big way back in 1996, but 10% is nothing to sneeze at.
