Trail Connectivity Meeting in Blairsville, PA tonight

Sorry for the late notice.....I just got word of this today......

...First, a quick synopsis of what’s happened around Blairsville in recent years: US Route 22 has been rebuilt, putting eastern Pittsburgh within an easy-hour’s drive. Meanwhile, the Ghost Town, Hoodlebug and West Penn rail-trails have been developed to within a couple of miles of the community – and a “Loop Trail” is being developed around Blairsville.

Tie all of that development together and you would have a community that is situated within an hour of a major metropolitan area, surrounded on three sides by water and connected to three major trails that are still growing. West Penn, for example, already connects to the Westmoreland Heritage Trail and is drawing closer to the Roaring Run Trail near Apollo.

Not that these new connections will be easy or certain: just to tie the Ghost Town and Hoodlebug trails to Blairsville, a pedestrian/bicycle overpass must be constructed over a major highway. And significant landowner issues must be resolved to connect the West Penn to the community.

At 6 p.m. on June 8 at the Blairsville Recreation and Community Center, a public meeting will explore all of this and examine the recommendations of a “Trail Connectivity Study.” This meeting should be of interest to trail fans, businesses and entrepreneurs who reside well beyond Blairsville.

Why? Because over the past 200 years, this community has demonstrated time and time again that it can thrive by being in the right place – and making the right connections.

I'll try to make it from Ebensburg, thanks for the heads up.

It's a shame that it has to happen in the evening, too late to bike it and back :(

Just wondering if anyone went to last nights meeting in Blairsvile, concearning the connections of the Ghost Town trail to the West Penn,Roaring Run, and Westmoreland Heritage Trails. What did they have to say and did they give any timelines of when they plan on connecting these trails?? Even though I live in Pittsburgh, I try to get out to these trails because it's so beautiful and my personal favorite bike trails in Western Pa.
