Volunteers needed July 19 near Kennywood – trail maintenance

Volunteers are needed for trail maintenance on Sunday, July 19. Could you come out and help? The principal goal is to cut back shrubs that are encroaching along the sides of the Steel Valley Trail, narrowing the bikeable lane. You can park at the Pump House in Munhall, then bike or walk 1.5 mi to the work area. MEET: Sunday July 19 at 8am just south of the Whitaker bridge (first bridge over the railroad tracks). BRING: pruners, gloves, water bottle, and perhaps bike & bike lock. Optional: shade hat, sunscreen, rake, hedge trimmer. Kids welcome. Note: there is some poison ivy along the trail. I expect most of us will work for 2-4 hours. If you come late, just proceed toward Kennywood along the trail; you’ll see us. -Paul Steel Valley Trail Council also of note: the section of trail near Kennywood will likely be closed Mon. 7/20 for work on storm drains

No promises, but I'll put it on the calendar.

I put up a sign on the Whitaker Bridge about a mile upstream from the Pump House:

I'm doubtful, after checking on my transpo options Sunday morning.

Please come out and help Sunday morning. If you can't come at 8am, come later. We'll be working until noon.

We got a lot done yesterday. We had 14 people come out, but we could have used more. We trimmed back the growth along the side of the trail between the Whitaker Bridge and Kennywood (near mileposts 137 & 136). Here's a shot of Roy with hedge trimmer:
