it was so much fun. I think the only folks missing were Onorato and Rendell. Larry (enrico's) didn't look to enthusiastic about the whole affair though.

I liked the rant by one of the senators about how our fellow cyclists don't always follow the rules. It was fun watching everyone try to not smirk.

that was Ferlo. he was cool as a city councilman, and a mosque avenger, but dunno what happened once he went to harrisburg.

Senator Ferlo didn't have nice things to say about the ELB lanes, either, IIRC.

Yep, dat's my bike in the pic. To be clear, Larry from Enrico was STOKED about the rack and that was the reason it went in there. He was very enthusiastic about this program.

Also, yes, Ferlo is pretty luke warm on bikes, but to give him credit before he started talking about how bikers could do a better job following the rules, he said drivers need to be much more aware of cyclists on our streets and drive more safely.

I am always amazed at how much stuff costs.

Great work by everyone involved, from BikePgh to the politicians. As a cyclist, it's so encouraging to see all the new bicycle developments. This seems like a great time to be cycling in Pittsburgh and I look forward to all the new riders that will be joining us because of new cycling facilities.

serious, if you know of any businesses that need them, or know people who run businesses, tell them about this program. there should be some postcards available soon so that people can walk into a business, hand them the post card, fill out the info, and send it to the city to request one.

@rsprake this actually surprised me by how little it costs. the figures they published puts it at around $125 a rack. I thought they were more on the order of $500 each installed. Sweet!

I recall Scott saying that they were around $400 each, but also that the price depends on the vendor, of which there are several for the Three Rivers model.

If a private citizen wanted to buy the three rivers racks, I know there is a link up there, but is there a ballpark on what the pricing is?

there's some good stuff from 2004 when then councilman ricciardi ranted about the one bike rack going next to the beehive

Seriously. It is rather impressive how quickly things change. I moved to pgh in the spring of 2006. Even since then, the growth in the availability of biking resources and the attitude of the city towards cyclists is incredible.

The bike rack program is a HUGE step forward and a boon to small businesses in the city.

We should get Ravenstahl to do a group ride from his house to downtown to show him it can be done as a thank you.

where does mayor luke live?

i think in city view. someone asked him if he'd ride in and he said that it was too dangerous.

oic. that would be in interesting event.

I think he lives in the north hills somewhere.

I know he thinks its too dangerous ( at least I think he said that in that mayoral candidate interview that was posted a long time ago), but thats what we should do is show him thats its not if your ride correctly.

City View? 16Fville? Heck, I was on a couple of those streets just a week ago or so. You think those are bad? Geez, Mr. Mayor, you ought to try actually -riding- around the city about 40, 50 or so miles a week.
