Well, technically, 21 december to 20 march... But, hey, we seem to have celebratory days for all sorts of stuff. On the whole I think it's a healthy sign, for now.

You know, if the goal is to get casual folks cycling to work more often, holding your event on Valentine's Day seems like a really bad idea...

Valentine's day is a Hallmark holiday.

In a conversation earlier today I ended up trying (and probably failing) to explain the differences between Martin Luther King Jr Day, 4th of July, Thanksgiving, Christmas and Labor Day (national? , civic? , semi-religious feast?, ...) The word "holiday" is clearly overloaded. And then there's "Hallmark".

At least Valentine's Day has some actual history behind it, as opposed to totally manufactured holidays like (ugh) Sweetest Day. But the point remains - it still seems weird to hold the event on a day when causal riders are likely to have plans that might make a bike commute problematic.

I think it's funny that I am generally least likely to ride my bike to work on "bike to work days", which are always on Fridays.

Historically, I've treated official "bike to work days" as an excuse to take a day off and enjoy a bike-instead-of-work day.

@reddan++ Seems fair. Cyclists who ride every day get bike to work days off.

Thanks for reminding me about valentines day. I despise it. I hope people ride.

My problem is that I usually don't work until later in the day, after bike to work stuff has already ended

My usual work week is Sunday through Thursday, so I get to just ride around to different stations on bike to Work days. If one does not work until later, one could do the same.

Oh, this is gonna be troublesome. The wife has something planned for after work, and I can just see either her fighting traffic in town to pick up me and a bike, or me trying to leave early to bike home in time to shower and change for whatever-it-is. I'd've been happier with a Thursday.

I took the day off and hope to be riding in the woods dressed in tremendous amounts of pink.

riding in the woods dressed in tremendous amounts of pink. I'm pretty sure it's not (yet) flamingo season in PA, but be careful out there...
