would anyone be interested in going in on some Bike Pittsburgh wool jerseys?

I'm thinking more of a one-off type of thing, not something we would have on the website long term and keep stocked.

if we can get 12 people to commit, we can get a huge price break, getting the jerseys for about $60 each. If we were to do this, I would have to take pre-orders, collect all the cash, then make the order. I'm not really interested in making money off of this for bike pgh, just to get some sweet jerseys out there with bike and pittsburgh.

so if you're interested, post here and maybe we can get something together.

the ones i'm looking at are from portland cycling wear, http://www.portlandcyclewear.com

there is actually a bit of acrylic mixed in with the merino wool.

let me know what yinz think.

I'm in. Prefer short sleeves, but I'd be willing to bow to peer pressure if everyone wants to go long.

i would certainly be interested, and i'll ask my friends as well. are we talking long sleeve or short sleeve, out of curiosity?

Erok (or anyone), I have two 2008 model Portland Cyclewear jerseys, if you want to take a look for sizing comparisons. They run big (and a bit long). The 2008 models don't shrink (try as I might), but earlier models do (anybody want one that fits a small child?).

I'd be interested in a jersey, too, methinks, and will do whatever the crowd does. Moo.

i personally would prefer short sleeve.

i know you can mix and match colors and sizes, just not sure about short/long sleeve because they are different prices

i'm getting the feeling that we can come up with 12... stay tuned

brian, you generally like the jerseys tho?

you say they run a bit big.

what size do you normally wear and what size do you wear in these?

i usually run straight up medium on most things

Also, i was thinking of getting the "raised flock" type lettering which runs $3.75 per line.

If we want to get "Bike Pittsburgh" on one line, we'll have to go with the 1" letters.

here's the choice of font:

i'm leaning toward athletic script or tiffany

this we need to keep the same.

Yeah, I do like them. They work pretty well most of the year, too.

Portland's sizing seems kinda big. I have a Spot wool jersey that's a large and it fits perfectly (but I wear a medium in most synthetic jerseys, too). The Portland jerseys aren't huge, but they aren't a racing cut, either. My biggest issue that if I load up the rear pockets, the jersey really sags. The addition of the synthetic fiber may help that, though.

Also worth noting that they seem to make plenty of changes year to year, so these jerseys might be smaller, since that seemed to be a common complaint on teh interwebs about the 2007 and early 2008 models.

Count me in, long or short sleeves.

I'd probably be down, I checked portland cyclewear out at Interbike, jerseys looked and felt nice, can't comment on sizing. Nice looking manpris too, and not $150 a pair.

Erok, have you checked out

Made in the US, does team apparel, maybe in wool too?

Two things:

1. I did a bit of research about PCW, and it seems that some people get really crappy service from them. Like I said, I have several jerseys, and have never had any issues (in fact, service has always been quite prompt). I'm considering a separate large purchase from them (for a potential team sponsored by my employer), so I wanted to do a bit of due diligence. I intend on emailing Chad today to inquire about additional fonts (Erok, according to the site, there are 50 standard fonts, and not all are displayed on the site), so if I have a particularly negative exchange with him, I'll let you know.

2. Kucharik is nice, but their custom stuff is not at all cheap, and 30 pieces is a minimum order. I don't think you can do custom wool, either.

Does anyone know of a local shop that could do embroidery or flocked letters? Perhaps the thing to do is just order plain jerseys from PCW and get the logos added 'round these parts.

bjanaszek

yeah, i considered that too. i thought that if the local person messed up the embroidery, the loss would be on us, but it might be a risk that we may be willing to take considering what you said

I'm in too!

I would be in for a short sleeve shirt. I've heard good things about wool. The poly jerseys I have been using have developed an odor that no amount of washing will eliminate. Time to try something new.

I'm interested - I like the tiffany font the best, it matches the old Pittsburgh Pirates "P"

We've been using Off the Wall in Greensburg for screen printing and embroidery. They've done all our recent T-shirts and the embroidery on the Swobo Jerseys we have now.

Very fast, cheap, decent customer service.

Ok, at the risk of making this more confusing on my part, I’m putting up Pre-orders for both long and short sleeve.

Whichever one gets to twelve first, we’ll order that one. I'm getting the feeling that we might be able to get to twelve for both sizes.

Only fill out the one you prefer. At the end, there is a question about whether you would settle for the other if it made ordering easier. If you click yes, then you may have to settle for that one.

If you are willing to potentially get one of each, then go ahead and fill out both of them, just make sure you’re willing to pay for both.

Remember, you’re not actually buying one, just committing to buy one when the time comes.

Confused? me too.

I had ordered a short sleeve jersey, size large, I think. If it's not too late, I should probably go with an XL. So, erok, if you could change that when you place the order I'd appreciate it.

kordite

not too late, no problemo

What's the story on the shirt order? An order was going to be placed when 12 shirts were pledged. How close is the total?

kordite
2008-11-26 16:15:38

ahhh sorry kordite, i didn't get back to you in time.

well, it seems like most people put long sleeve as their preferred jersey. there def isn't enough for short sleeve.

it did get delayed some because someone raised a concern about the ethics/sanity of the proprietor of this company.

my opinion, the guy learned his lesson and the subject should be put to rest.

i'll be dealing with this some this weekend when i'm at my parent's house for the holiday

erok

That's too bad for me, then. I suppose. Good to know what happened with that. Well, if more people are interested in short sleeve shirts I'll be in on it.

Bike Hugger is selling a wool short starting after Thanksgiving. Maybe I'll get in on that action.
