WTB: Cyclocross for winter

I'm looking to get another bike for the winter. I've been looking around for cyclocross bikes and I really like the Surly Crosscheck, preferably in a single speed. Wondering if anyone has this bike or a similar one for sale or know where I can get one on the cheap or possibly know of some better options.

Cross is kind of "hot" right now, so the bikes are (IMO) somewhat overpriced and hard to come by. Find yourself an old steel road frame or old rigid mtn bike (cheap!) and build yourself something. Unless you're seriously competitive it will do everything a cross specific bike will do, except make bike thieves salivate.

Try bikesdirect.com. I got a Dawes cross bike back in September as an everyday bike for under $500. I'm extremely happy with it. There is at least one single speed cross bike on there, too, that's even less expensive.

The trek stores have the Kona Dew Drop for around $750, but that is geared. They may have some Christmas sales going.

Otherwise ebay may be your best bet.
