2ND ANNUAL HAUNTED HALLOWEEN BIKE RIDE

Hurry! Space is limited and slots are filling quickly…!

Join us for the 2nd Annual Halloween Haunted Bike Ride! This easy-paced ride and fundraiser will take us all over Pittsburgh to various haunted buildings. We’ll be making plenty of stops to tell stories and give local haunted history. This will be a different ride from last year, so you won’t hear the same ghost stories again! This is a fully supported ride with treats and drinks provided along the way. Participants are encouraged to ride in costume, but please make sure that you wear something that will not get caught in your wheels or chain, and that does not impair your normal field of vision. Helmets are required – but you can always decorate them! This ride benefits Bike Pittsburgh – we’re trying to keep the streets from getting too “scary” when it’s not Halloween. Come out and enjoy a pleasant evening of stories and legend while helping to support an important local cause. Please bring a bike light if you have it; loaners available with advance notice.

To sign up for this event, call Venture Outdoors at: (412) 255-0564.

Event Day: Friday, October 29th
Event Location: Washington’s Landing – First Parking Lot On The Left
Event Time: 6:00pm – 9:00pm
Cost: $20 Bike Pittsburgh & Venture Outdoors Members, $25 All Others

SURVEY: LOCATIONS FOR ADDITIONAL DOWNTOWN BIKE RACKS?

The Pittsburgh Downtown Partnership (http://www.downtownpittsburgh.com) has installed dozens of the new Public Art Bike Racks in the Downtown area. They’re looking for additional locations to place these unique bike racks, and have requested your input. If you ride Downtown, where would you like to see more of these racks installed?

Send your suggestions to Lucinda Beattie: (lbeattie@downtownpittsburgh.com).

TEA-21 GRANTED 8-MONTH EXTENSION

The Transportation Equity Act for the 21st Century (also known as “TEA-21”) was recently granted another 8-month extension. This is the sixth extension to TEA-21, as Congress has spent months debating on the terms and amounts of funding renewal. This legislation has been instrumental in providing Federal funding for bicycle and pedestrian project accomodations, improvements, and facilities.

More information on TEA-21 may be found on the government website: (http://www.fhwa.dot.gov/tea21). Bike Pittsburgh has continually supported re-authorization of this funding, and will report on further developments as we obtain information.
