Sneak Peak: Whats On Tap for BikeFest This Weekend

BikeFest Is In High Season – Catch a Ride Before They’re Gone!

ride more drive lessAt the end of today there will have been 45 different BikeFest rides and events hosted since August 9th – with plenty of more to come. Now, I don’t know about you, but the last week has flown by.  I just wanted to take a second to give a preview of the rides that are coming up this weekend to help you schedule your BikeFest-approved outdoor recreation for the next few days!

Friday

Wake up and try riding your bike to work with the Crusing to Pamala’s ride or the Car Free Fridays Bikepool: East End to Downtown.  Spend your day dreaming about riding bikes then get our of work quick to join the Pittsburgh Bike Party in Oakland or the Northside Ride led by the Northside Bike/Ped Committee.

Saturday

Saturday is packed with lots of chances to enjoy Pittsburgh by bike.  You can join The Every Pittsburgh Neighborhood Ride & see, well… every Pittsburgh neighborhood! or saddle up next to Pittsburgh’s oldest German Club,  Teutonia, and see the city’s beautiful trails and landmarks on the 2013 Teutonia Männerchor Radler. If you want to jam all the PGH essentials into 21 miles, you can join the 12 Bridges, 3 Rivers, 21 Miles Tour  or join the PGH Parks Conservancy and see Nature in Your Neighborhood, from Homewood to Frick Park.  Speaking of Frick park, if you’re feeling studious, you can head to the Carnegie Science Center at noon for Velomuse’s MTB Biking Skills Demo to learn the essential skills of mountain biking.

Sunday

You’ve got options:  Continue on the mega-mile bike binge with the Pittsburgh Major Taylor Club on the 3 States Tour (you guess which ones) or a number of other road rides.  If you want to take it easy you can give praise on the Bike to Church Day Celebration, or join the Lawrenceville Historical Society on the Allegheny Cemetery Bike Tour. Either route you take, you can have an afternoon cool down on the Pool Tour to take a dip in PGH’s public pools, then settle in at OTB’s Bike Movie Night II.

For the details on all these stupendous rides (when/where/who to contact etc.), check out the BikeFest Calendar of events. Have a great BikeFest weekend!
