Our First Women’s Winter Bike Maintenance Class!

Spinnsters Women Winter Maintenance Workshop

Women Came Together to Winter-Proof Their Bikes

January 21st marked the date of BikePGH’s first event since the Women & Biking Program was officially dubbed The Spinnsters! Bike riding ladies from all backgrounds came to the Pittsburgh Bike Share office for an awesome workshop led by Katharine Jordan, skilled mechanic and co-owner of Kindred Cycles.

Katharine demonstrated the maintenance necessary for keeping a bike in one piece during the winter. She covered everything from choosing chain lube to dealing with the snow and salt that gets kicked up into our bikes. We also traded tricks for staying warm while riding through wind and snow (hint: those rechargeable hand warmers are worth it).

Long story short, the maintenance workshop was a blast! We met so many amazing women, and we can’t wait to host our next Spinnsters event. The enthusiastic participation in this workshop made it clear that the bike loving women of Pittsburgh should get together more often.

We look forward to forward to seeing you at the next Spinnsters event! Our next Coffee Meetup is Wednesday, January 27th at Black Forge Coffee House at 8:00am.

Don’t forget to save the date for the 3rd Annual Pittsburgh Women & Biking Forum!
