Be Our Marketing and Communications Manager!

Communications is core to BikePGH’s mission and advocacy. Marketing is core to our growth and  success. We are looking for a highly motivated, talented individual to lead and expand our communications and marketing, and aid in our fundraising work. This full-time position reports to BikePGH’s Executive Director and works closely with a talented team of biking and walking advocates.

Position Duties:

  • Evaluates and improves Bike Pittsburgh’s communications plan to reach various audiences in Pittsburgh (core members, potential members, and people who have yet to hear about our work)
  • Creates and implements innovative marketing plans to promote Bike Pittsburgh core events and programs: PedalPGH, OpenStreetsPGH, BikeFest, City Cycling Classes, and more
  • Writes fundraising appeals
  • Crafts messaging around strategic goals
  • Writes and curates blog posts on the topics of biking, walkability, and advocacy
  • Manages content on the website
  • Manages projects with contractors including video and graphic design
  • Acts as an organizational spokesperson
  • Creates communications strategies to move supporters up the ladder of engagement
  • Uses A/B testing and analytics to maximize engagement
  • Inspires people to participate in and advocate for making Pittsburgh a safer place to bike and walk
  • Manages Bike Pittsburgh’s social media networks including Facebook, Twitter, Snapchat, Vine, YouTube, Instagram
  • Works on special projects as needed

Skills and Abilities:

Considerable knowledge of:

  • Managing others like interns and volunteers
  • Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Word, Pages, Google Docs, Hootsuite (or other social media manager)
  • At least three years of communications or professional writing/editing experience

Some knowledge of:

  • Bicycle and pedestrian issues, transportation, and politics
  • Urban design and planning
  • WordPress, MailChimp

  • A creative and motivated self-starter and be capable of and enthused about working with a team;
  • You are passionate about making complex ideas accessible to others;
  • Biking and walking are your preferred modes of transportation;
  • A strong track record as an implementer who thrives on managing a variety of key initiatives concurrently;
  • High energy, maturity, and leadership with the ability to serve as a unifying force in order to position communications discussions at both the strategic and tactical levels;
  • Thinking strategically is second nature to you but you also enjoy rolling up your sleeves to get the work done;
  • You have knowledge about and interest in advocacy, walkability, bike infrastructure, and community organizing. You have a strong desire to use communications for positive social impact and to take the local bike/ped movement to the next level;
  • You communicate in order to inspire people to take action;
  • You geek out over a well-designed infographic, and perhaps have even made one or two yourself;
  • You can help a fun, hard-working bike ped advocacy organization create engaging content that reaches core and new audiences.
