8/19 Confident City cycling – Downtown

This Confident City Cycling takes place on the rooftop of the Grant St Transportation Center. With an incredible view of the city, you will get over an hour of dedicated parking lot drill time in a car-free area. You will learn about how to best fit your helmet and bike to your body, how to check over your bike for basic safety before each ride, practice hazard avoidance and quick stops so you are ready for anything that comes your way on the road. The second half of the class will bring you around downtown to experience various types of infrastructure firsthand under the guidance of a League Certified Instructor. At the end of the class you will practice putting your bike on a stationary Port Authority Bus rack and check back in with your instructor and peers about what you hoped to learn in the course. Even very experienced city riders leave the course feeling more confident and prepared than ever. Any rider 15+, who can stand on their pedals, is invited to take this course. If you don’t have a bike, it comes with a free Healthy Ride voucher so you can borrow bike share for the course.

9/6 Bring it By Bike @ Healthy Ride PGH

At this Special Topics City Cycling Workshop, Bike Pittsburgh will go over how to carry just about anything by bike. Getting groceries, commuting to work and bike touring will all be covered. See examples of different types of bikes and bags to learn how to you can carry what you need on your own bike. This takes place at the Heathy Ride Headquarters in the Strip District.

9/16 Confident city cycling – East Liberty

Confident City Cycling is intended for riders who know how to ride a bike, and are looking for instruction on how to operate it safely on city streets. This class meets outside the Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh in East Liberty. Practice parking lot drills, learn from experts, and go for a road ride in the area to practice navigating different types of traffic patterns and infrastructure. At the end of the class you will practice putting your bike on a stationary Port Authority Bus rack and check back in with your instructor and peers about what you hoped to learn in the course. Do you feel like you can use some practice? Looking to improve balance or focus on mastering a  particular movement or skill? The Wheel Mill’s indoor venue, and the small- class group, drop-in style allow participants to learn and practice city cycling skills in a controlled, protected environment. This class is intended for riders who can ride in a straight line, but need additional practice honing skills and gaining both confidence and practice before hitting the streets.
