ACTION ALERT! Call your State Senator To protect transit, biking and walking funds

Pennsylvania’s state legislators are at it again. The PA House of Representatives passed a Republican bill that raids funds meant for transit and multimodal transportation projects (among other things like education and support services) in order to balance the budget.

Governor Wolf and PennDOT have called this bill “irresponsible,” but Pennsylvania is out of money so there is enormous pressure to finish the budget.

This comes on the heels of the latest US Census data that shows how Pittsburgh has bucked the national trend, and has grown in bike commuters, and reversed a five year slide in transit ridership, despite the drop in gas prices. Both biking and transit have seen dedicated funds over the last several years, showing that these investments work!

Call your State Senator!

These Allegheny County Representatives voted to raid transit and multimodal funds to balance the budget.

John Maher (R-Upper St. Clair), Jason Ortitay (R-South Fayette), Rick Saccone (R-Elizabeth), Hal English (R-Allison Park), Mark Mustio (R-North Fayette) and Speaker Mike Turzai (R-Marshall)

The bill now goes over to the PA Senate.

Make sure your PA Senator isn’t out of touch with their constituents!

Call your Senator TODAY and let them know that this bill is irresponsible and should be opposed! It only takes a few seconds!

Gutting transit, biking and walking funds literally takes money out of the pockets of hard working Pennsylvanians! These cuts will devastate our neighbors who depend on getting to work without a personal automobile, increasing congestion and decreasing air quality in the process.

We must keep the momentum of better transit, biking and walking that has proven to help Pennsylvanians in real ways.

Senators from Allegheny County:

If you’re unsure, find your legislator.

This Wednesday, get on the bus…to Harrisburg

Our friends over at Pittsburghers for Public Transit are organizing a bus trip to Harrisburg to tell legislators that we won’t accept the gutting of our transportation lifelines.

They’re meeting at 7:30am at 2022 Chateau Street and driving to Harrisburg around 8am and will be returning to Pittsburgh that evening.
