LaneSpotter App adds alerts feature

Get up-to-date information about road closures and bike commuting hazards

LaneSpotter, a crowdsourced platform by and for cyclists, officially launched in October 2017. Since then, over 13,000 cyclists have joined the community and those people have provided safety ratings on more than 15,000 roads in 255 cities and communities around the world.

The company was created by Lynsie Campbell, an avid cyclist who has navigated and explored cities all over the U.S. by bike. However, when Lynsie started to ride with her young son, “it totally changed the way I looked at biking,” she said. “I started to focus more and more on safety. In particular, safe routes.”

LaneSpotter Alerts

LaneSpotter just added a new feature that helps navigate cycling hazards like road closures, construction, and our famous Pittsburgh potholes. Alerts, combined with Bike Maps and Safety Maps, provide bicyclists with a comprehensive view of the safest and best streets for cycling in any city, based on the experience of actual riders.

So we went outside to test the app out and help fellow cyclists by reporting at least two potholes around the office. Once you spot something to report…stop riding, get your phone out of your pocket and follow these steps:

Step one:

Open the app on your iPhone. As you can see in the picture, we are located in Lawrenceville.

Step two:

Tap the alerts button to add a new alert for your fellow cyclists to see when using the app.

Step three:

Select the location  for the alert you would like to add. You can zoom in to be as precise as you like.

Step four:

Select what type of alert you would like to add. We are going add a condition (pothole) alert.

Step Five:

Specify the condition. Bad road conditions could be a collection of potholes in the same street/road. Which saves you a lot of steps and pictures.

Last Step:

Add a lovely picture of the condition you are reporting and add a description that could be useful for others.

It’s that easy!  We look forward to reading what you have reported to LaneSpotter Alerts!
