Bike Pittsburgh Issues Traffic Alert for OpenStreetsPGH this Sunday, June 24

Streets will convert from car-friendly to people-friendly Sunday at 9am

An estimated 30,000 bicyclists and pedestrians will take to Pittsburgh’s streets this Sunday, June 24 for OpenStreetsPGH. Participants will enjoy the car-free streets of Downtown, the Strip District, and Lawrenceville from 9 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Car traffic will be prohibited on a 4 mile stretch of Penn Avenue and Butler Street on Sunday morning.

TRAFFIC ADVISORY

Streets will begin closing Sunday at 8 a.m. The event does not start until 9 a.m. The following streets will be impacted:

  • Market Street from Market Square to Liberty Avenue
  • 6th Street from Liberty to Penn Avenue
  • Penn Avenue from 6th Street to 34th Street
  • Butler Street from 34th Street to 52nd Street

Roadways will reopen promptly at 1:30 p.m.

Traffic crossing intersections

There are 12 intersections along the route where motorized vehicles CAN cross the route during the event.

    • Liberty Ave. & 6th St.
    • Penn Ave. & 7th St.
    • Penn Ave. & 10th St.
    • Penn  Ave. & 11th St.
  • Strip District
    • Penn  Ave. & 16th St. BRIDGE ACCESS ONLY
    • Penn  Ave. & 21st St.
    • Penn  Ave. & 26th St.
    • Penn  Ave. & 31st St. – BRIDGE ACCESS ONLY
  • Lawrenceville
    • Butler  Ave. & 40th St.
    • Butler  Ave. & 44th St.
    • Butler Ave & 51st St.

PARKING RESTRICTIONS

Cars parked along the route must be moved before 3 a.m. on Sunday morning or they will be towed. “No parking” signs will be placed along the route on Thursday.
