Free Bike Mechanic Classes All Summer Long at Free Ride

Visit Free Ride Bicycle Collective and take a Free Bike Maintenance Class this summer

We are thrilled to share that there will be free to the public mechanic classes open to all from May through August 2019 at Free Ride Bicycle Collective: 214 N. Lexington Ave, Pittsburgh, PA 15208.

Class Descriptions:

Introduction to Bike Repairs:
An overview of bike repairs and bicycle sizing.

Tires Tubes and Flats:
Learn about bicycle inner-tubes and tires. And how to repair a tire that’s not holding air anymore. You may bring your own bicycle or parts to practice on, or practice on bikes provided in class for learning these repairs.

Hubs and Bearings:
Learn about the center of the bicycle wheel and how to keep your wheels spinning without any play – that’s right, bearings! You may bring your own bicycle or parts to practice on, or practice on bikes provided in class for learning these repairs.

Wheel Truing:
Learn how to straighten out a wheel with a wobble by adjusting the spokes. You may bring your own bicycle or parts to practice on, or practice on bikes provided in class for learning these repairs.

Headsets:
Learn how to spot and repair damage to the bearings that let you steer your bike. You may bring your own bicycle or parts to practice on, or practice on bikes provided in class for learning these repairs.

Drivetrain:
Learn how to remove, clean and fit a chain, how to remove and replace gears, front and back. You may bring your own bicycle or parts to practice on, or practice on bikes provided in class for learning these repairs.

Bottom Brackets:
Learn about the center of the cranks you pedal – and the tools to reach, fix and replace it when it wears out. You may bring your own bicycle or parts to practice on, or practice on bikes provided in class for learning these repairs.

Brakes & Cables: 
Learn how to adjust your brakes, how to work with cables and how they work with housing. You may bring your own bicycle or parts to practice on, or practice on bikes provided in class for learning these repairs.

Derailleurs:
Learn how to adjust the shifting on your bicycle beginning with derailleurs and leading back to the shifters. You may bring your own bicycle or parts to practice on, or practice on bikes provided in class for learning these repairs.
