Bike Pittsburgh
With gas prices going up and all of the nice spring weather, more people might be interested in getting outdoors and riding their bikes. Bike Pittsburgh is an organization whose mission is to establish Pittsburgh as an increasingly, safe, accessible and friendly city for bike transportation. Joining us to offer perspective on the state of biking in the Steel City is Rebecca Susman, Membership and Outreach coordinator at Bike Pittsburgh
Talking Shop
Bike shops can be some of the best places for cyclists to meet and compare notes. Adam Haller, Sales and Maintenance Associate at Thick Bikes on the South Side, answers questions about how to pick out the right bike and gives crucial maintenance tips.
Three Rivers Two Wheels
Essential Public Radio reporter, Josh Raulerson tells us about a new path for riders with an interest in American history. A stretch of western Pennsylvania byways is now part of an Underground Railroad bicycletour being offered through the Adventure Cycling Association. And author Louis Fineberg, Bike Pittsburgh Program Director, talks about his book, 3 Rivers on 2 Wheels: An Explorer's Guide to Urban Pittsburgh, which includes self-guided tours of Pittsburgh neighborhoods, navigation maps, and a look at the burgh’s beautiful architecture.
Oh, cool, I thought I missed it. FYI, they rebroadcast later at night (like 11 or midnight, I think).
I like their new format. The only music I liked that they played before was Rhythm Sweet and Hot, and they kept it. The Essential Pittsburgh is a neat show, too.
Listening to it now. They really covered a bunch of topics (advocacy, how to start biking, bike trails) and had nice conversations. Hope they do more of this!
Bummer, was working, but might try to catch the rerun. I'm with you, ejwme, the new 90.5 is great!
According to the website it will be rebroadcast at 8pm tonight!
Becca - you did really well!
Only one complaint. When asked about bike only views Lou totally failed to mention 31st bridge and hot metal bridge shared sidewalks. Two of the best views of the skyline and they are accessible only by bike or on foot.
@ Vannevar, thanks!!
