Bicyclist struck by car in Downtown intersection

By Vivian Nereim, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

A bicyclist hit by a car at a Downtown intersection was hospitalized in serious condition this afternoon, according to a city 911 supervisor and a witness.

The crash happened at Boulevard of the Allies and Wood Street shortly before 2:30, the 911 supervisor said.

A Point Park University student who saw the scene shortly after the crash said it looked like the bicyclist was hit by a gray Audi turning left from the Boulevard onto Wood Street. The mangled bike was in the street this afternoon, where blood smeared the crosswalk. The Audi's windshield was shattered.

Alex Page, the 19-year-old Point Park student, said the man hit was conscious and speaking when he saw him. He asked someone else to turn him over and looked like he was in pain, though, said Mr. Page.

Police had cleared the intersection by 2:45.

Judging by the PG photo, car was westbound, turning southbound. I cannot tell which direction the cyclist was headed.
