Bike Cleaning and Maintenance

I wanted to share a Bike Cleaning and Maintenance instructable collection I pulled together. Please tell me if there is something you would like to see added. Hopefully these step by step guides can help someone.

Things I don't feel people talk about: How do I clean the chain on a mountain bike that has had mud forced through the chain, caked in the cassette, built up around derailleur cage? A simple wipe down and application of lube just won't do in this case. Just hose it down and re-lube? Take it off the bike and soak in gasoline? How do I actually deal with that muddy derailleur? Throw your bike away and get a new one? How to clean a bike after riding it on a slushy east coast winter day. It's caked in salt, it's got salt on the chain, and most of the lower 1/2 of the bike? It's also probably dried on there. What should I be concerned most about? Should I clean my rims and brake pads? How can I prevent everything from rusting and my rims from being worn from extra road grit.

#1, remove chain and cassette, use ultrasonic cleaner, re-lube. #2, power wash it all, except your bearings. Re-lube.

I wonder if this could be linked to or added to the bikingpgh.com site. Justin, if you want an account there, PM me your preferred username and email and I'll make you one.

Thanks for the responses. Yeah for a really deep clean you need to have a little pressure to wash everything off. When I was putting this together I was thinking of basic easy diy maintenance everyone should know to keep there ride going. I think I'll search for some more in depth ones and if they aren't there then I'll make them. If you think of anything else I'd love to hear it.
