flangeless hubs

so i got a front flangeless disc hub (shimano deore HB m555) for cheap, unless they are so bad that I shouldn't build a wheel around them (if you actually do think this please speak up) i know that they aren't great, don't care.

what i do care about is lacing patterns and building the wheel. i have found a couple places online that say flangeless are designed for a specific pattern... no one says what it is... anyone that has ever built one of these please lemme know if there is anything i should look out for.

3 cross, completely forget how I figured the spoke length.

I bought a rear hub used for 5 bucks, probably have 7,000 or so miles on it. No problems.

I always thought these would be a great choice for a touring bike. No need to remove anything to replace a broken spoke, wouldn't even need to pull the wheel out o the frame.

well... i suppose this means i start to build it soon.

spoke length... hmmm...

dood go to the shop where you're going to buy the spokes and have them help you figure out the spoke length with their softwares and charts and such. too many factors in play.

that is definately the plan. i'm really good at outsourcing crucial purchasing decisions, especially when they involve math.

Good luck with that. All spoke measuring systems are based off flange measurements. These don't have any flanges.

I built these when I worked in a shop that had access to a spoke cutter, so I wasn't that worried about getting the length perfect, I could take a little off the top. I ~think~ I used the same measurement as a set of flanged Deore hubs and it was perfect. But I have no way of proving this true or not.

well, despite the fact that it is "flangeless" it will still have a flange radius and diameter.

oh boy... i got a fine professional to worry about this for me. this is all out of my jurisdiction.
