Yup, we broke the board. It seems the board software thinks there can only be 40 pages per thread.

Here's page 41. Notice it shows the page range as 1-40 on page 41!

I guess we just can't have nice things.

I think someone needs to start tag-o-rama part 2.

Wow, if you guys busted a thread in 7 months, during the winter, even if another thread starts, it'll be toast in no time.

ETA: The board's now showing page 41 of the original thread. Did they fix it? It's working for me; is it working for everybody now?

Original thread now shows page 41 (for me) and is live with a new tag as of a few moments ago.

Yeah, it looks like it's fixed now. I meant to PM erok after I posted this but I got distracted... but I'll assume he (or someone) did something?

It's better, but not 100%. I just went to the original thread, clicked back to the board, then went back into the thread, and got put on page 1. I can see page 41, but it didn't take me there automatically.

Yup, it's broken for me too. You get get to the hidden pages by editing the URL though.

Actually, I just did. I clicked on the big bold word "Reply" itself. It took me back to page 41 and the reply box appeared. Then my post appeared, along with the rest of page 42.

But yeah, it's broken. Workaroundable, but broken.

It's not just the Tag-O-Rama thread.

Right now, the thread "why" has three pages, but the board is only showing two.

In detail, the Latest Discussions page says 94 posts, last by greenbike, 41 minutes ago. Going to the thread, the links all go to page 2 only. Manually changing the URL is the only way to page 3, where greenbike's post is the only one there. And the thread displays "<< Previous 1 2" as if there were only 2 pages, even on page 3.

Most likely page 3 will appear eventually. There might be a time delay until it does, or perhaps it will appear once a sufficient number of posts are on the hidden page.

I just emailed bike-pgh's "general inquires" address and pointed them to this thread, in case their web guy hasn't heard about this new problem yet.

Seems WordPress has a number of message board systems available for it. Maybe they could switch to a less buggy one, if this and the other bugs don't have ready fixes? Surely they all can't be this bad?

WTF is going on there?

We are soooo close to 2000 posts.

Who runs this board? Can we contact them with this issue and see if they have a resolution? It would be a shame to have to keep splitting up the threads. If we got to this point in 6 months through the winter, how long is it going to take once spring gets here?

This problem has been around for a while, longer than the most recent complaints. Patience seems to work: After some time (or number of posts) the thread starts working correctly (until the next end-of-page...)

WordPress has lots and lots of configuration options; maybe something needs to be tweaked.

There is possibly info on the web about this; it can't be the first time this has happened.

Finally, our webmaster can submit a report to WordPress support.

My own theory is that the calculation of the maximum page number is broken (likely due to truncation when rounding should have used). I think this implies that the problem will get worse over time.

I sent an email to info@bike-pgh.org on Wednesday, linking to this thread. No response so far (though perhaps it got spam filtered). Maybe somebody else will have better luck.

It's possible the bug is the one described here, which suggests the software is miscounting after posts in a thread have been deleted. The (temporary) fix seems simple enough; the site admin just needs to visit a certain URL to have the software fix things up.

And... after my last post it appears to be "fixed" again?
