Rules on posting speed limit signs

Who knew?

Speed-limit posting rules often fall by the wayside

And from the Trib, no less. And because somebody died.

Also, note the discrepancy in the article:

Paragraph 5: PennDOT is responsible for ensuring accurate speed-limit signs only on state roads that permit drivers to travel at speeds greater than 35 mph, according to state officials.

4th paragraph from the end: Hempfield Township Solicitor Les Mlakar contends state law only requires local governments to take responsibility for speed-limit signs on roads where municipalities petitioned to reduce speed limits below 40 mph.

And of course, blame it on funding, and a political catch phrase more often heard 15 years ago, "unfunded mandates".

For at least 10 years, more like 20, the only speed limit on the outbound Parkway East was near Smithfield Street, and said 50.
