Stolen Yellow Cannondale F700

Had my bike stolen from the front of Doherty hall last night (Dec 1st) between 8-12pm.

The bike is a distinct yellow color with "Cannondale" written on the center of the frame in black with a thick red outline.

Here is a picture of a very similar bike:

The handlebar extensions were pretty well worn and the back tire had a red stripe around it while the front did not. There was a mud flap mounted over the back tire and a front/rear pair of lights too.

I had locked it with a combination lock around the frame, but got lazy and only changed the position of one of the rollers.

Any help finding it would be greatly appreciated.

Sorry this happened. I'm in Oakland a few times a week and will keep an eye out for it.

Also, most of us on this board recommend the use of a U-lock to prevent theft. Of the many thefts that get reported here we’ve yet to hear of one where a U-lock was used. Also, also, we have successfully retrieved bikes before, so good luck.

Sorry. Hope you get it back soon, I'll keep an eye out, too. It have the headshock, on there with the yellow forks?

Yeah. If the yellow coloring doesn't give it away, then the headshock will. Everything else in the picture is pretty accurate, aside form any accessories that i put on it.

Thanks for the support. Will defiantly use a U-lock from now on.

Took this photo yesterday on the Southside. Lessons learned:

(1) U-locks are pretty effective against the common thief for the part they go through.

(2) U-locks alone are almost worthless if you hope to come back to an intact bike.

(3) A determined thief will get around whatever you do.

(4) Location, location, location. May not stop them, but if it's somewhere out of the way I think it's a much easier target than if it's somewhere where there are eyes on it.

Good luck, jrboes. I really hope you recover yours. Things like this make me want to never leave mine out of my sight!

This is in Manhattan -- probably overkill-ish for Pittsburgh.

With the picture of the red bike, why didn't they pull the cranks, stem, brakes, etc.? If they were comfortable enough with not getting caught to take both wheels and the seat, there was a lot more good stuff availible.

@helen s

Because with quick releases it's only 3 secs for seat, around 7-9 sec for front wheel, and about 15 secs for real wheel. Total about 25 secs.

BTW, why not add a simple robot detector to the account creation mechanism on this site? Wouldn't that eliminate a lot of this spam? It doesn't have to be anything complicated.
