2010 Reverse Keg Ride: Saturday, November 6
Saturday, November 6th. rain or shine.
Breakfast and Check-in at 9:00am
Depart at 10:00, arrive at 11:00-11:30am
Cost: $15 for pre-registration (on-line), $20 for Day-of-ride registration.
THE RIDE: After a “light breakfast” at OTB Bicycle Cafe courtesy of our GOOD FRIENDS at Whole Foods Pittsburgh, we’ll head off in a nice tight group. Of course, the big difference is that unlike the KEG RIDE in the Spring, everybody knows where we’re going on the REVERSE KEG RIDE… back to the brewery, just like last year!
Except this time, this ride is going legit, with permits, insurance, ride marshals, and complete lack of Friday evening rush-hour traffic. And this time, we’re also asking that you STAY BEHIND THE KEGS as we carefully wind our way back toward the brewery. Like the Spring Keg Ride, this trip will be slow, meandering, and maybe even a little surprising, in spite of already knowing the destination. When we arrive, we’ll say goodbye to Pedal Pale Ale until next year, and raise a glass of SNOW MELT WINTER ALE to toast it’s passing, on me of course.
Thanks for posting this! Should be a fun morning of riding, and quite traffic-free compared to the last Keg Ride we did in the Spring (Friday rush hour=bad idea).
Last year, it was something like 185 riders at the Reverse Keg Ride, so we’re hoping for a bigger turnout, and even more fun. Maybe the “hot breakfast” will be more of a draw than the beer.. I suppose we’ll see.
And of course, it’s all for charity.
More details, and a link to the Registration page can be found here: http://www.eastendbrewing.com/node/874
See you there!
Cheers – Scott
also, does anyone want to ride to OTB together? I’ll meet at Friendship Park at 8am (blargh) if you’d like to ride together to OTB to start the ride.
Still trying to decide if I can make it. Rocky Horror at the Oaks the night before. temptations temptations.
It looks like it is going to be cold, but I will be there with some fellow Flockers to help lead and manage the ride.
I’m registered too and looking forward to it. I wanted to do the spring one, but I was out of town that weekend.
I’m also going, snow or shine.
If anyone wants to bikepool from Greenfield, I’ll be bombing down Greenfield Ave at around 8:45, earlier if it is snowing.
lolly – i will ride down with you. I come from morningside. i must make sure i have proper riding gear. brrrr. i have never ridden in such cold weather.
Get paid Thurs, so i’m hopefully gonna register that night…and bring the big bright urban out!
I was gonna waffle about this but I guess I wont, I really enjoyed the last Flock ride but I had everyone waiting for me to get my fat self up the hill.
If Im gonna slow everyone down then maybe I shouldnt go. what do you think?
There will be enough people on this ride to where i don’t think this will be a problem…It will be a slower ride i’m sure.
anyone coming back to the southside afterwards I can ride with?
It will be much larger than the flock or dress rides. People will be pulling kegs, and there are sure to be more than a few novice bikers. You should be in good shape dbacklover.
last year it took approx 1.5 hours to go 10 miles…so don’t worry about keeping up!
well I feel much better about it. if I can drig my but out of bed after Rocky Horror I will be there.
these will give you an idea of the type of ride it is http://www.jonpratt.com/2009/Reverse-Keg-Ride-November-21st also this year looks like it might included some snow
Few Snow Showers
oh hell with it, if I don’t just do this i’m never gonna go past the southside. I’m in
wish i could make it but i’m outta town this weekend, enjoy guys! you should totally go dbacklover, this ride is unwieldy and slow. there will probably be many slow-speed crashes caused by the winter wind
I like the sound of “unwieldy and slow”… I think I’ve been called that before.
Hopefully no crashes though! I thinking (hoping) that if there is snow, that it will be the blowing-around-in-the-air kind, not the sticking-on-the-ground turning-into-ice kind. But I suppose we will see.
Pace will be gentle, especially if everyone stays behind the kegs, as we have designed it to work.
Should be a chilly but fun time – AND I do believe that OTB is doing some sort of post-ride special for people riding back to the South Side.
I signed up for this, but I have to work. Can I pass my registration on to someone who can attend?
I still hope it doesn’t rain but I’m kind of pumped about the idea of riding in snow. I remember the first time I played ultimate frisbee in an ice/snow squall, I felt so hardcore.
On the other hand, my household includes a hatchback and a parking pass at South Side Works, so the 8 a.m. ride to the ride is somewhat optional for me…! Hoping I’ll have the cojones to do it all under my own power though.
I’m a definite maybe & haven’t signed up yet. How late can one sign up online?
@stu: Some friends who tried to sign up were told that they are on a “waiting list”……. I don’t know what that means, but if you find out, let me know!
From what I’ve ascertained, there is definitely not a waiting list. Should be plenty of space for everyone interested. Are you sure they signed up for this ride and not something else?
@dwillen…. it was something else & is been fixed! It was a misunderstanding and EVERYONE can sign up, or show up last minute!
See you yinz there!
You don’t have to preregister (at least you never have for the other keg rides), you can just show up and pay.
You don’t have to, but it is cheaper if you pre-register for this one.
BOO i have to cover a shift at work tomorrow
@lolly, this also means i can really take pictures.
i think i may come down to OTB anyway. Id like to meet everyone, and I don’t have to be at work til 11
this sounds so awesome, I wish I didn’t have to work all morning
Getting ready to head over to Friendship Park. Now the forecast says it’s supposed to be sunny-ish with just 10% chance of wet stuff.
Sitting at crazy mocha having hot coffee before the ride. Very excited for the ride
I snapped this photo at the end. The tally I heard was over 100 cyclists.
I got one of those photos ate the start. Will post when i get home. Had a great Ride. Thanks to those of you who spurred me on. You know who you are
