I’m looking for some of these in the East End. The only one I know of is on Neville coming up from the Run — behind the Carnegie Museum parking lot. Anybody know of some others?

Try any number of side streets between Butler and the River. I think the best access between 40 Street and the Highland Park Bridge.

River Road near the Heinz Plant – more East than West…

There’s also the MonConn RR behind the PTC, but there are barely ever trains on it.

Are any of those diagonal to the roadway?

The rail road tracks are on marked on Google maps. You could check with streetview to see if it is an at-grade crossing. There isn’t many railroad at-grade crossings in the east end because the main line is elevated (I don’t know the rail line name).

Not east end, but there is a great RR diagonal at grade crossing at Mars Valencia Road just north of Route 228 in Cranberry/Seven Fields area. We get a lot of complaints about that location.

What about to the west of the Route 8 corridor? The crossings I can think of are pretty straight on, but there migth be a diagonal crossing in that corridor.

Thanks a lot for these suggestions, there are a couple around 40th-43d St that might suit.

That line going up into Mars has several not-quite-90-degree crossings. Swalfoort mentioned the one on the S end of Mars; there’s a real narrow-angle crossing just N of Mars. The crossing on Sample, just SW of MtRoyal is another, not as bad as the ones in Mars but very bumpy and at the base of a steep hill; the track itself has a curve there.

On Duncan just W of 8, too. On Elfinwild, it crosses the road at a 90-degree angle but the road itself has a very tight bend right next to it, at the base of a steep hill. Also Pennview going W off of 8 just above Etna.
