Bikes Reported Stolen 2015
To add to Jane’s post…
STOLEN BIKE ALERT – A FRIEND GOT HIS BIKE STOLEN SUNDAY EVENING in LAWRENCEVILLE – READ BELOW…..
Ugh, stolen bike. Outside Hambone’s on Butler St. While I was playing banjo in an old-time jam. 7pm. A witness I talked to saw a man in a green jacket fiddle (yeah) with the lock for a while then ride off. It’s a 2012 Cannondale hybrid. Black&white. XL size. There’s an XL sticker on frame (SEE PHOTO).
PLEASE SHARE AND KEEP AN EYE OUT!!
Let’s find another stolen bike through working together!
My Trek (black, disc brakes, fenders, rear rack, bell) was stolen from the South Side on Saturday night.
If you see it call 412.889.1702 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
Bike stolen out of my garage Saturday night, it is a 2013 Trek 8.2DS Blue and white like picture attached . It has a lot of modifications plus it is the biggest frame I could have gotten.
Rear Disc brake
Double barrel rear wheel
New front shimano crankset plus clips
Front extension on handlebar
two water bottle cages
If found email me @ email@example.com, I am offering a reward if found.
Ugh, I’m am so sorry. The bike thieves are busy once again. Everyone keep an eye on your bike, lock it with a U-lock, and look for these bikes at pawn shops, flea markets, and on Craigslist.
Contact Craig at Bicycle Heaven ((412) 734-4034) if your bike is stolen because he sees a lot of people who come by to sell used bikes. He’s been very helpful in the past.
I’ve updated the Bikes Stolen page on the Wiki (http://bikingpgh.com/index.php?title=Bikes_reported_stolen).
Posting for Brent who is searching for his ’73 Schwinn Le Tour Luxe, taken from in front of my house. He lives in the 3300 block of Ligonier Street, in Lower Lawrenceville, across the street from the Quick Stop (convenience-store). And at the time when his bike was taken there was a lot of garbage outside, and a bagster (dumpster made from a nylon bag) in the street, full of debris. The bike was leaning against a tree, near the bagster, so Brent is aware that this may have been a mistake and not a theft. He hopes for it’s swift return!
Again the bike is a ’73 Schwinn Le Tour Luxe. All the chrome is original, and rust-free. The paint is a sort-of electric blue. It’s a tall bike (I’m 6’3″), and it has a gray Brooks Cambium saddle (looks very different from the leather ones, but has the familiar Brooks logo on the back.
Sorry to interrupt, but I’m looking for a key resource:
Does anyone have a work-safe link (i.e. not facebook or youtube) to the video of the thief cutting a cable lock in the 3rd street garage last year?
I’m trying to make a case for better bike racks to be installed at my company’s downtown headquarters and having that video would be demonstrative of the issues with their plastic toaster racks that only allow bikes to be locked via cable locks.
Not the same video, but makes the point really well, and on Vimeo: https://vimeo.com/105781365
Hi all, My bright red 2008 Jamis Trail X3 was stolen from my garage in Point Breeze recently. Any sightings would be appreciated! 724-610-9256
If you have a photo, or can find a photo of the same bike on the web, I’ll update the page on the BikingPgh.com Wiki.
Caucasian Male – stealing from decks and porches in Hazelwood and Greenfield!!! 1d ago
LA Goldsmith from Hazelwood
Keep an eye out for this guy – he stole my bicycle from my back deck last Friday and today came casing the place again!! He’s late 20’s, early 30’s, white, dark hair to his chin (like a bob or Little Lord Fauntleroy), about 5’10 to 6 feet, slender, maybe 165-170 pounds max. Called the cops, but he disappeared into the woods. He was on foot – must have sold my bicycle!!!

Bike stolen Sunday evening into Monday morning (May 9th/10th) at Allegheny Center apartments in the North Side. The bike storage is in a gated lot with faub only access, however on the North side of federal street there is a brick wall that the fence stops at one end and continues on the other. I can almost guarantee this is where the access point was for the punks. Told the management and they “looked into it” for about five days and couldn’t tell us a dang thing. Completely useless when they have surveillance at each end of the building. Besides the point, but don’t get me started on their efforts…
It is a cobalt (bright) blue that color that could not be mistaken. Make is Diamondback and it is an Insight 2 (2014). It is from REI and I just got it about a month ago. They cut my cable lock and unfortunately I felt too complacent and didn’t use my thick chain link lock that I typically use. Tried emailing the guys from Bicycle Heaven twice, but no response. Hoping that I can find these punks.
Thanks for any help.
Jrocko,,I get tons of emails since we deal with bikes and parts all over the world but we are on the look for your bike sorry we dident get back to you but great news for Bikeygirl and her friend John.I was able to get Johns bike back to him today it was the bike taken in Lawrencevill at Hambones Butler st a Cannondale. The bike came in today for repairs and the guy wanted many parts changed and seemed to know nothing about the bike [ a red flag ] so I looked up on this site about a Cannondale and boom it is the bike on this post,,,great news we got Johns bike back and the Cops are working on the guy who brought it in to us,,,all I can say for now,,Thanks for your post on the Cannondale.
No worries BH! I’m not mad at all at you guys lol I was just stating what happened bc I saw you guys are pretty active on this post. Nice work with catchin the cannondale!!
I’m always happy when I hear about these recoveries. Please, if you a lost bike back, post it here. And, especially, thanks to @BicycleHeaven for being such a good friend to the Pittsburgh bicycle community.
My 2009 Fuji Roubaix was stolen from my back yard in Point Breeze about a month ago. I know I’m posting late but late is better than never. It’s a 64cm frame, had blue bar tape, a red/white/blue rear tire, and a blue front tire. It would be really easy to identify due to A) it’s size and B) it’s color combination. I unfortunately don’t have any pictures of it in that state.
The thief left another bike behind, it’s a much smaller trek bike, it’s red with canti-brakes, I can give more details on that one too, as I’m sure it was stolen as well.
I know this is a long shot as this bike was stolen last year but it might be worth a shot still. I still like to try! My boyfriends bike was stolen outside of our now old apartment in Bloomfield. Literally in the like 20 minutes he turned around to grab something from inside. It was still even locked and someone had cut the cable. Real early in the morning too.
He also added lime green bar grips and hot pink bar ends. And added stickers haha.
My Trek 7.3 was stolen around May 21. Unfortunately, I don’t have the serial number but it has red and blue Fiks Reflective stickers on the front and back wheels. It’s a pretty ridiculous pattern and is somewhat distinctive and would light up at night. Please let me know if you have seen it! Email: firstname.lastname@example.org
Another big bike bust today at Bicycle Heaven,,A Scott bicycle black on black came into Bicycle Heaven ,I got video and I.D of the two guys who brought in the bike .The bike was taken and lock cut at Jimmy Johns last night as the owner of the bike was working and he just bought the bike the day before for over 800 bucks.I was able to return the bike to the owner and the police are doing the job needed.Good luck for the owner and from a friend who posted the story this same very day about the bike taken. Two bust in two days ,,,thanks Craig at B.H.
There is a new bike rental place at the waterfront in Homestead. I’m sure the owner is legit & I wish him much success and am glad to have a rental option down that way especially since it is right on the trail.
However, his business is using mostly used bicycles. So even if this guy is super diligent in trying to buy only legit bikes – some stolen ones may filter through. We should probably add this business to the list of places to check if your bike goes missing. And it would be nice to provide this guy some business too.
Police called to bicycle heaven today Sunday on another bike brought in for sale but ended up not stolen but he did bring in a bike on Sat yesterday that was stolen that’s why I called the police,,,just a up date they are working on this,,,,two recoved bikes in two days,,,looks like court days and lots of work
Any report on the types of Bikes confiscated in the bust?! Keep an eye out for the blue diamondback insight 2 listed in my above post :-) thanks again
Hi the only Diamondback blue bike that6 came in is a sorrento
I can’t decide whether we should call local media to make a fuss over BH or keep quiet to avoid letting thieves know not to go to him! So excited that people are able to recover some bikes through this community and a responsible, involved retailer. Thanks again, Craig!
My bike was stolen on the Northside on Sunday. Right in front of the Park House. It was a Scott. Looked something like this. Thanks.

Got a Raleigh c 700 bike with fenders and a bike Pittsburgh decale today brought in from a guy who brought in a stolen bike a few days back but the police haven’t got to him yet,,i think it may be hot ? I bought it hoping to find the owner,,,,,,
Saw a cyclist walking up Greenfield Ave. sans bike today wearing his helmet and holding a U-lock in his hand. He told me his rig got stolen. I told him to post here and that bikes have been recovered through the board, hopefully he does. Saddest thing I saw today.
^was his u-lock cut or did he just not use it? I hope we never get to the point of u-locks not being enough.
@marko82 not sure, I briefly spoke to him in passing to check if he was ok, as I was late to where I was going. Advised him to post here so people could keep an eye out for it, but didn’t get into the nitty gritty. Didn’t look compromised, from the brief glance I had at it.
I discovered this morning that two bikes belonging to my wife and I were stolen from behind the house in Highland Park (King Avenue) either last night or the night prior.
Missing are my red Peugeot road bike (10-speed, black lock on the back, dent on the right side of the top tube) and my wife’s red Giant “mountain bike”.
The Peugeot is a “record du monde – sport” from the late 70’s, early 80’s. It has new drop brake levers, cables, and housings. I just cleaned it up earlier this month after about a year dormant. What a shame….
I’m James, and you can reach me at 203-856-2419 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
Across the street from me, there is a bike locked to a sign, with a U-lock.
The U-lock is securing two loops at the ends of a cable, but is otherwise not connected to the bike…
Here’s my Peugeot, stolen recently from Highland Park.
I was showing my downstairs neighbor how to fix the brakes….
Please call or text if you see it! I’m at 203-856-2419.

Rmeanor your welcome I am glad you got your bike back, it paid off paying for the bike to find the owner.Thank you for giving me the money I paid for the bike you did not have to do. We found a few bikes for people just in this last week .I think we found a owner of the other bike you saw in our office,,,,thanks
Bicycle Heaven, nice job getting @rmeanor ‘s bike back! How many stolen bikes have you recovered and reunited with their owners, at this point? Seriously, much respect.
Sorry to hear about all these stolen bikes – fortunately, there’s been a pretty decent record of people getting their bikes back. One good way to increase your chances is by knowing your bike’s serial number and having a good picture of the bike. To that end, the Lawrenceville Bike Ped Committee will running Bike PGH’s “I <3 My Bike” booth at Open Streets this Sunday from 10 until noon near 47th and Butler. The booth let’s you get your picture taken with your bike, and record your serial number, all of which gets kept in a database by Bike PGH in case your bike ever gets stolen.
So if you’re riding your bike to Open Streets, stop on by.
Thanks, I never counted but this last 2 weeks has been at least 5 or so.I have been collecting bikes mostly antique and used bikes for over 30 years so I am a master of finding bicycles and since I have had the shop here on the north side its like a bike magnet . I think most bike shops and people just knowing me through the years know we buy trade ins and such and pass the word .I hope the word gets around that yes we buy used bikes but don’t take down any stolen bikes because you will get busted . I told everyone who came in with stolen bikes that I need I.D. and they are on video and if its a hot bike they get turned in ,,they are just so stupid .I wish some day it would be just so great that when someone brings in used bikes I don’t have to worry about them being hot,,its a lot of extra work I lose money my time in court , But the nice thing is when someone picks up a bike we find they have a smile and say thank you and its a great feeling .I think its to easy to take bikes and easy to sell them and its a fast money but if the word gets around that the serial numbers are on record or a system like they do for cars that my put a stop to this for the most part . When I would get someone in with a bike that I thought was hot I would just turn them away but I thought of a plan to now buy them get I.D try to find the owner SINCE NOW I HAVE HELP BEING ABLE TO DO THAT WITH PEOPLE LIKE YOU AND BIKE PITTSBURGH AND EVERYONE SHOWING / LISTING PHOTOS . May be someday I can buy bikes and not go through all this trouble and everyone can ride a bike with out the worry of it being stolen . 99% of the bikes have been locked when taken. You don’t have to thank me i am just trying to do things right and make it more easy to buy bikes and make Pittsburgh a fun bike friendly place.I started B.H. in a garage at my old house fixing bikes for kids then started collecting Antique bikes. All the bikes you see at the Museum I had put away in garages for 30 years till I found a place I could afford to display them,,that I did find on the North Shore Pittsburgh North Side has been good to me and made my dream come true .I thank everyone and its my part to do what s right.
