Commuter shorts for women
These are awesome shorts Thick carries, but unfortunately they only seem to come in men’s sizes. They dont really fit me right. They have an integrated ulock loop.
Any ladies have any suggestions for comfortable, breathable, not hideous commuter shorts?
I’m not a lady (am working on some moobs), but Aerotech right out of Coraopolis has a whole line of womens stuff, and a lot of their stuff is made right in Coraopolis. See small banner on right sidebar.
I’ve gotten some of their other stuff and it has been fine quality.
This doesn’t really answer the question, but depending on why they don’t quite fit right, it might be worth getting them tailored (or doing it yourself).
Many of my (everyday) pants are men’s pants that I’ve taken in/modified around the waist.
Also if you want something less “cyclist” looking (like the Enduras), I like golf clothes, they are usually made of the same fabrics as bike clothing, like so, 4% spandex;
except plaid. Don’t do pastel plaid. Unless being ironic.
My wife got some from harlotwear.com that she says are comfy.
I have a few items from their men’s line that have held up well, especially given what I paid for them.
Lucia had a pair of Harlot bike knickers that were really nice. I’ve not tried them personally yet, though. She said they wicked and dried quickly and they looked nice.
Not sure what your style is, but perhaps tactical/bdu shorts might fit the bill:
(women’s stuff on bottom, couldn’t get the filter to work)
They’re generally economically priced and extremely durable
Club Ride makes 2 models of casual shorts for women, the eden and horizon.
I don’t have any accounts of how the women’s shorts are, but my cargo away shorts are my favorite pair of shorts ever. Great for on the bike. They tend to come with separate liners with camois, but the liners are not attached to the shorts and the shorts are awesome off the bike.
There is equestrian wear as well. They sit in the saddle for long periods too, so their seams should be in the right places.
I have a pair of Zoic (men’s) Market Shorts that I just love. They have the separate (removable) liner, so I just use them over any padded liner that I have handy. They wick well, and look great. I get compliments on them all the time, even when I am wearing them for just running around. No U lock holder though. They do have cool leg opening zippers though.
I own 4 pairs of Harlot Knickers – 3 knee length, and 1 short-short. Enough to say that I love them. They have a built-in padding that is nice in the butt area, and the shorts have elastic-type features in the part were you move. The fabric is very water-repellant, and it has reflective pipping in the sides for visibility. I’ve been buying them for 3-4 years now and really love them.
Also, I own a pair of short “Shebeest” chamois w/padding that I wear under regular clothing -dresses, shorts, tights, pants, you name it! That converts any casual clothing into butt-on-saddle happy!!
Hope that helps!!!
I just noticed that Aero tech is selling a line of cycling/fitness dresses. Yes, dresses. These are really cool. Genius. In terms of alternate options to “sport” clothing, now we’re getting somewhere.
Also I think your visibility in traffic would skyrocket.
I don’t see what is cycling specific about that dress. Its spandex, sure, but I don’t wear spandex anyway. A truly cycling specific dress would be cool.
