The 2019 Dirty Dozen will be Sat Oct 26. It will start at 9:00 am at the Rhododendron Grove Shelter in Highland Park and will continue to be organized in groups in order to keep the individual groups down to a manageable size (https://www.facebook.com/DirtyDozenNewsFeed/).

NOTE that this is about a month earlier than the traditional date. Worry about weather, the increasing number of out of town participants, and the difficulty Danny Chew has waiting at the top of hills in the cold led to the timing change. The hope is that this will sharply reduce the odds of bad weather forcing a cancelation.

Finally, there are scouting rides each week leading up to the Dirty Dozen. As per tradition they are starting out with quarters of the whole ride, followed by the top and bottom halves, and finally practicing the entire route. These rides are also announced on the DirtyDozenNewsFeed, with starting locations depending on the route.

first time ever i’ll be around for the DD. Not to ride — i bet I can’t even climb one hill, but to watch.

Any ballpark as to when riders will start showing up at center Ave in aspinwall? I’d like to ride over to support you guys.

I believe the racers (heat 1) will depart from the shelter at 9:00. They don’t waste their time, but the exact route this year is still undergoing some tinkering (I’m not totally sure whether Chistopher or Center will be hill 1). It also depends on whether Berryhill road is open, which right now seems highly unlikely. That will all become clear soon.

I think that Berryhill was closed last fall (2018) and won’t open until spring 2020 due to sewer line work.

BTW on the world’s steepest street: it’s now Ffordd Pen Llech in Harlech, Wales. Something to keep in mind.

That isn’t a real steet in my mind.  Looks more like a one lane thing.  At least Canton is a real street.

Thanks for posting about the Dirty Dozen.  I would have missed it for sure if I didn’t read about the earlier date.
