There is an elction tomorrow.

I don’t know any of the candidates and don’t know if there are some of them that have positions on bikes.

Any clues?

Fitzgerald answered some questions for us back in May during the primary. Raja has not replied.

Here’s Fitz’ answers

Raja is auto-dialing me multiple times a day, so because of that and because I don’t know if Raja is his first or last name and I’m just not really cool with the whole one name thing…he will not be getting a vote from me.

As to names, Raja is the only name he uses; that’s common to that ethnicity to only use a last name. Occasionally he uses a first initial “D”. Not that that makes me want to vote for him any more.

Heh, a lot of those questions seemed kind of leading

“Do you agree that riding your bicycle is fantastic and great for the world?”

I don’t see why a politician would disagree with any of the questions asked.

On an slightly related note… The fund the libraries referendum is on the ballot. I believe it is property taxes for libraries

Often it’s not what you ask a politician, but whether or not they answer that lends them credibility. Even if their answer is “What?”, it’s much better than no reply at all.

BTW Tabby: LOL!

I voted at 6ish. 20% turnout in morningside. Ugh. Sad. And the weather is nice.

Small turnout in Stanton Heights also.

The people at the polling place were pretty excited to see me pull up on a bike. Possibly the first time anyone in Robinson has voted by bike. Good turnout, but there is a crazy school board race going.

yeah, some of the questions are a no braiiner, but the thought was that if they do something, we at least have that to hold them to. “well you said…”

I overheard one of the candidates (he wasn’t sure which one) was pumping up the Mon Fayette Expressway idea again as a way of alleviating Parkway East traffic… Anyone else heard about this?

In 2006, Fitzgerald was president of county council (which was officially in favor of it), and when he proposed holding off on land purchases until they had the money to actually build the road, he had to reiterate that he was still in favor of it.

By September 2011, neither he nor D. Raja wanted to talk about it. Neither of their campaign web sites mentions the issue.

Anybody know any results yet?

Fitzgerald won, and so did the libraries. The PG found a little bit of room on its home page for election coverage, down below the various Penn State football stories.

Fitzgerald will also be supporting shale drilling around the airport (Raja would’ve, too).

I, for one, look forward to riding on ciclovias all over Allegheny County with Rich Fitzgerald.

Also, “County Chief Executive” seems like a really clunky title. I’m planning on calling him “the Count.”

did anyone see this article in the PG?

they’re already fighting and fitz isn’t even in the romper room yet.

“Governmentally, we need to work together. While the mayor doesn’t always show up for things and he doesn’t always work every day, I’m going to be working,” Mr. Fitzgerald said in an interview.

and

Asked about the comment on his work habits, Mr. Ravenstahl said, “while I’ve heard numerous stories about how bad Rich’s temper was, until now I’ve personally never been subjected to it. I’m not sure where it’s coming from.”
