Can we get one of these, please?

http://www.bikedenver.org/news/hitandrunbill/

BikeDenver is very pleased to have a law in place that “increases the possible penalties for leaving the scene of a serious bodily injury crash from a class 5 felony to a class 4 making it equivalent to possible penalties for drunk driving.”

Note from this link the bill passed almost unanimously. So it shouldn’t be hard to duplicate, right?

Truly there’s wisdom in this. If leaving the scene carries a lower penalty than DUI, then a person who is actually UI has incentive to leave the scene.

I looked into this a while ago on another thread and I believe the penalties for drunk driving causing an accident are already less than hit and run where there is an injury, in PA.

Yeah, I suspect it’s less about the penalties in the law and more about convincing the DAs to charge and judges to sentence appropriately…
