I have a like-new Timbuk2 D-Lux Racing Stripe Laptop Messenger Bag for sale. It’s the Large size, which has a laptop compartment that is 19.7″ x 11.8″. (It fits my 15″ MacBook Pro with a ton of extra space in the compartment, and I imagine it would fit many 17″ laptops.) The color combo is “black/gunmetal/lime-aide” (which you can see at the link above). Since it’s a great bag for bikey uses, and since you guys aren’t creepers, I’ll try to sell it here before putting it on Craigslist.

It really shows no wear that I can see, but you’re welcome to inspect it yourself, and I can also send you pictures if you’d like. I bought it last summer and have used it only a handful of times since then — my panniers ended up getting all the love. It’s time for me to admit that I’m not getting my money’s worth out of it.

It’s the 2011 model. I paid $94.79 for it last year, and in the few places where I can still find that color/size combo, it appears to still be selling for around $95. The 2012 model sells for $139 on Timbuk2’s website. Considering that, I’m starting at $80, but feel free to make another offer.

I also have a Timbuk2 Classic Messenger Bag (XL, orange and grey) that I’m tentatively thinking about selling; let me know if you want more info about that.

The best way to contact me is email: skp27@ [insert first four letters of this city’s name here] .edu. You can also respond to this post if you have questions. Thanks! :)

Edit: Oops. Posted this in the wrong section. Sorry. I usually just look at the front page and forget that this forum has sections.

I’m interested. Let me see if I can scrape together $80. I’m tired of wearing a laptop and a bungee cord everywhere I go.

Cool. I’m about to send you an email.

just curious, stu, but you were strapping a laptop to your body by bungee cord and riding in traffic?

Any links to the XL bag?

How many bottles of wine can it hold?

@dmtroyer – Yep, do that every day, done it for years. It’s a drag, to say the least. The bungee holds no weight; it’s just there to keep the case from swinging around.

There was a while in there when I was carrying two laptops like that, bungeed together.

The bag is still available (Stu found out someone loves him enough to make him a bag, so his bag will be way better, but this one is still pretty cool).

@VeloEvangelist: It’s the Classic Messenger in XL: http://www.timbuk2.com/tb2/products/classic-messenger.

But it’s a color scheme they haven’t made recently, so I’m having a hard time finding a picture. It’s just an orange center panel with grey side panels. I’ll take some pictures myself later. As for its wine-portaging ability: I am disappointed to find that I don’t have enough bottles of wine in my apartment to do a good test for you, but I imagine it can hold… a lot. It’s so huge that it’s honestly kind of awkward to carry as a messenger bag, at least for a smallish person.

I imagine it can hold… a lot.

I have this bag, also in the large size, and will confirm, again, without any actual experimental data/knowledge, that it holds a lot, but wanted to offer my guesstimate of at least 10, depending on how you packed them. I would say the weight of the wine bottles and how much you can carry on your back for however far you’re going is more of a limiting factor than size of the bag.

Just performed capacity tests on both bags, using measurement units that will hopefully be familiar to all here:

The Large “D-Lux Racing Stripe” bag held the following things, without much room to spare for any more large items:

4-pack of hard cider bottles

6-pack of beer bottles

1 bottle of gin

1 bottle of cava

2 bike helmets

The XL Classic Messenger held all of the things above, plus a set of old drop handlebars with quill stem attached. It had a little bit of room left over, but I had run out of alcohol and helmets.

Photo evidence here (with more photos of the bags as well). Not the best photos I’ve ever taken, but they show what needs to be shown.

Is the large still available? I’d love to have something a little smaller than my current bag. I can meet you wherever with cash Monday.

Yep, the large is still available. Wanna email me so we can figure out where to meet up?

The XL has been claimed, although I’m not meeting up with the person who is buying it until next week, so I’ll post again if that happens to fall through between now and then.

I used some less-common items to test capacity:

Two pizza boxes (with cold, semi-stale pizza inside)

Two large law casebooks (Constitutional Law and Civil Procedure)

Three spiral notebooks

One big HP toner cartridge, in the box

One large U-lock

One umbrella

One bag of Trader Joe’s mango slices

I am very pleased with myself for having fit all of that in there.

Oh, god. Mango slices. Now I have to go buy mango slices (and find some excuse to ride to mango slices 20 miles away when there are some 0.75 miles away, because that is how I’ve been doing things lately). I’m never gonna get any work done.

It looks like both bags are claimed. That was easier than expected. Thanks, guys!
