This is a used 26″ mountain bike disc handbuilt wheelset, featuring Mavic XC 717 32-hole disc rims, DT Swiss 440 freeride hubs, and Wheelsmith straight gauge spokes. Asking $150. I built these wheels myself by hand about 5 years ago, and have not put more than 200-300 miles on them. They are still in great shape, and aside from a few minor scratches, they look like they’ve barely been ridden.
The front and rear DT Swiss hubs do not quite match, and this is because one is a slightly newer version hub than the other, but they are very similar (construction is almost identical) and the differences are not very noticeable on the bike. Both hubs have silky smooth bearings and the freehub body has great engagement. These are very nice hubs – very beefy and well-made, yet not terribly heavy. They use a standard quick release (I have quick release skewers which are not shown, but included).
The hubs alone originally retailed for at least a couple hundred dollars each, so even if you wanted to cut the rim out and lace these bad boys up to a beefier rim, or a 29″ rim, you are getting a great deal on hubs with plenty of life left. I am also selling a Surly Instigator (18″) frameset and I have other miscellaneous parts if you need stuff to build up a bike.
I am located in Lawrenceville. Please feel free to contact me with any questions, if you want photos, or if you want to come check out these wheels.
