How many miles a day, week, or month do you ride.

I'm now up to about 60 miles a week, I'm just wondering how many miles do the Pittsburgh bike community rides. I just want to know if I ride an average amount or less

I'm riding about 60 miles a week right now, just commuting. I'll do some more purely recreational riding when the weather improves. According to my odometer I've ridden about 2000 miles in the last 9 months. I'd guess the median is somewhat less than that.

I think typically in a week I probably ride between 50-60 miles. All of which is commuting.

My riding is also mostly commuting.

My total for this year as of 5/16/11 is 550 miles. I reset my computer Jan 1, 2011.

Last year I logged 1,970 miles. Mostly in warmer weather.

between 100 and 200 now, probably more once (if) the weather lets up.

I have loged a little over 1k since Jan 1st, mostly commuting. My total was 2700 last year, 1200 for 2009... hmmm, a trend :-)

marko82

Roughly 30-50/week. Usually the bike takes at least one ride a week on the front of a bus, homeward, while I get some work done after the meeting I rode into town to attend.

stuinmccandless

Commuting and utility cycling, 80-120 miles per week.

My recreational weekend rides tend to skew my overall numbers a bit.

70 miles commuting, more recreational and transportation miles if the weather is good enough for it to be enjoyable.

rsprake

Minimum commute, 2mi/day. Closer to 5 if I take the t home.

I forget how far if I skip the P1 and take the trail but I don't do that in rain.

6 miles round trip if I drive part way 25 mile round trip if I commute door to door. I would say average is 60-70 commuting plus some recreational riding.

I commute 4 miles a day - Google says 4.0, so that isn't an approximation. I skipped a day due to weather this winter and maybe 4 more for other reasons.

With shopping and recreation, that probably leads to 25 to 40 miles a week.

I might take a trip to Confluence later in the month. In anticipation, I did an 8 mile training run (down to 2nd ave, then up Greenfield and over to the top of Beacon for 8 miles with a bit of elevation).

I've been slacking... this year I've been doing between 25-75/week. Pretty much all recreational... since the bridge in McArdle is out of commission, commuting has become much less fun.

Last year this time 100-200... combination of recreation and commuting.

But after I get back from Ireland I have to buckle down. Doing the Tour De Cure in Watkins Glen on Aug 20th.

2 - 300 per week.

Several years straight of 10,000 + / year

250 a week. Sometimes more. I am enjoying the rain.

60 just commuting, between errands, commuting and recreational stuff that I get around to, probably 100-120.

superletour

~100 a week commuting.

orionz06
2011-05-18 16:58:26

A few days a year I might bike 40 miles, once or twice a month I might bike 15-20 miles, plus miscellaneous 5-10 mile trips. But I work from home, so no commuting. Averaged, it works out to around 5-10 hours a week I guess.

steven

About 110-125/week commuting, and then weekend rides, which could end up being 0 or 100+, weather and other commitments depending.

I've been hitting @4K annually for the past few years, but I'd like to get closer to 6K this year. So far so good.

Between commuting and fun, I'm at around 150 a week (amazes me, because it feels like less).

rocco
2011-05-18 23:04:18

I'm gonna say 10-50 per week.

Because sometimes I walk, or I'm lazy and take the bus, or just don't leave the house.

But then sometimes I get lost (and some of those times it's on purpose), or decide to explore, or just get bored and need something to do for the day.

My commute to/from work totals 6.2 miles, and .5 miles of that is an uphill walk. So if I work 6 days (which I'll be doing quite a bit here soon), I'll average 34 miles a week

It's amazing how many miles some of you ride. I just increased my riding from 18 to 60 miles a week and my legs feel like jello.

Your legs will get used to it. Keep it up.

Hate you guys. You made me count my riding. I took yesterday off because I've been "commuting" 25-50 miles a day, 6 days a week, soon to be 50-75. (It was only half that through the winter.) I broke it down so in my mind it was only 15 miles there, 5 miles of hiking, and maybe 17 back taking the long way since it's downhill on the way home, somewhat. (Toss in a bit of wading and there's a modest mutant triathlon?) Not daunting at all with that conceit.

But you b*stards had to go and make me add it up. Fine, now I'm weary.

150 miles a week? (Really????)-some larger number I do not wish to even consider.

Happy now?

Now go away and leave me to my misery. Get off my lawn! Get Out Of My Lane! It's MY Lane, MINE!

I'm not going to wear a helmet anymore.

The rides I track have me around 150/week now. I logged 2300 since November when I started tracking, but don't always track stuff like grocery shopping. I use a Garmin that I move between bikes (or leave it at home).

My commute is only 4 miles one way, so I am adding things to it on either end. Try to do one long ride a week between 80-100 miles. That has been affected by some backpacking. I was not doing the weekly long rides in the winter until February, so the numbers will increase as the weather improves. Hopefully it does, but warm rain is way better than 35 degree rain!

50 - 60 commuting a week, then I usually have a longer training ride on the weekend that I've been trying to increase. About 100 - 110 miles per week.

I think I have ridden about 50 miles this YEAR. I am fully disgusted. The best laid plans....

edmonds59
2011-05-19 11:50:08

edmonds, I'm with you. If I commuted the whole way, I'd be 250/wk just commuting. Some people posting here do that much in a week, some people do more. I'm thinking I should step it up and see what I can do.

ejwme

headed to the hospital in oakland today, which added 5 miles to my total commute for the day. Broke 10 miles for the time in a while, which was nice. I feel refreshed now.

Two weeks ago I rode about 500 miles. Last week I rode about 15 miles. This week I haven't touched my bicycle.

Since I started riding the scooter, I'm riding my bicycle less...and not struggling to keep up with Nick, since he's not riding his, either.

Very cool to see everyone's stats. Keeping track of ride miles can be addictive. I have a computer and I run a phone app to make comparisons, check max speed, average speed, create maps, etc.

teamdecafweekend
2011-05-20 02:45:10

Well, according to my GPS only 440 miles so far this year. I don't use it all the time but it's probably close - maybe I'll give myself credit for 500. My goal is 2500 so I guess I'd better get cracking.

Oh, and I rode up Negley tonight for the first time this year (I think), which signals my official start of spring.

60-90 total right now. (60 commuting, 20-30 fun and errands)

www.carfreecalculator.com

but that tool should only be used to track the car miles you replace by biking/walking.

i go from like 30 miles a week in the winter to 200 miles a week in the summer (for work)... i wish i had a fancy graph it would be funny.

imakwik1
2011-05-24 14:04:29

My commute is 11 miles round trip and I do it probably 4.2 days/week on average during spring/summer/fall and 1.4 days/week on average during the winter.

dmtroyer
2011-05-24 15:44:14

About sixteen miles a day training, although I've been lazy and using the rain as an excuse to skip days. Usually about 70 on a weekend day. Mostly doing railroad grade, twenty miles of Pennsylvania hills kick my ass but I still mix them in from time to time. I'm hoping to make the 70 mile ride from where I live to Pittsburgh (and back, staying down there for the weekends without my car) once I get more comfortable. So the short answer is I average about 150/week now but I'm hoping to push that up to 225ish miles/week in another month.
