I’d ride it. The thing looks like it would wheelie all day long.

That is what I would be afraid of.

Rans boasts of their hill-climbing abilities, but I’m a bit skeptical.

I contacted Rans about the possibility of getting a HammerTruck with a Rholoff. I figure, If I’m gonna spend that much, I might as well get what I want. They were unhelpful.

I note that the linked article suggests front racks are a good idea, for weight distribution issues.

Hammertruck/Rohloff? Sounds interesting, but is the Rohloff rated for heavy use, like tandems and cargo bikes?

yes, although there is a minimum input ratio (and it’s higher for tandems and possibly cargo bikes):

http://www.rohloff.de/en/info/faq/faq_detail/archive/2005/11/july/article/Smallest_permittable_sprocket_ratios-1/index.html

but, you get pretty low gearing with that, it’s under 20″ for 700c wheels IIRC, and obviously even less for smaller wheels.

Wow! I had not considered that – it’s nice to have teh concern brought up, then dismissed factually.

Thanks Dan and Salty!
