Legality of riding in a bus lane.

Oh, the bridge, of course. Somehow I was thinking of the sidewalk on Smithfield Street itself.

I do this two or three times a week, I ride forbes and recommend people try it.

I ride the white line on the right of the lane (outside of the curb) through the separated part (the lane is plenty wide here after the first little section, where I take the lane), ride it all the way through the striped zone where I have a good 400 ft or so to merge to the left/center of the left lane (I have never had a close call here or had to stop to wait for a gap to cross) where I have a decent view of cars coming down the cattle shoot… from here I take the lane until there is a break in the cattle shoot traffic and take the left lane up the hill.

I think this is just as safe as running with the busses and probably faster…especially since it puts you out on fifth up top and you’re in the bus lane the whole way through oakland too… on forbes you can do the whole stretch in one go because of how the lights are timed, on fifth you hit every other light. also, there are also options like center ave and jail trail –> bates or neville if you are worried about legality and safety, both of those options are perfectly legal and safer.
