My girlfriend is thinking of getting a Surly Pacer. Leaving aside the fact that I’m going to be super jealous, she’s trying to figure out the right size frame. Since she’s 5’2″, none of the shops have anything small enough for her and she would need to order it without being able to ride it. Basically, she’s trying to decide between the 42cm and 46cm frames. Does anyone have any experience with the smaller Surly frames, or any idea what the right size would be for someone 5’2″?

If she buys it from Thick bikes who is the only place I really knows sells Surly they would fit her. I think its important to get fit for any bike you buy.

Every/any shop has surly that has a Q account

which is most/all.

My wife has a 48 if you want to stand over it

and see what it fits like.

I am 5’2 and I ride a 46cm Surly Long Haul. I also didn’t get to test ride one in my size before buying.

My method for trying to figure out what size to get was to measure everything on a frame that I already had that I knew fit me pretty well, and compare the measurements to find the closest fit. I don’t know if this is the “right” tactic for sizing without being able to test ride, but I’ve done that with both of my current bikes and it seemed to work really well.

Things like stems and handlebars can always be changed to make her reach more comfortable, so keep that in mind too.

And yes, any bike shop with a QBP account should be able to order either a Surly frame or a complete bike.

Thanks for the input. Ended up ordering the 42 from Thick. They were pretty confident that was the right size, especially given the standover height.
