What to bring: Mead! (for hydration, not intoxication). Snacks! (plundering depletes vital energy reserves). Food&Drink for the potluck (villages may have already been ravished). Our ship lacks a galley, this is a BYOG (bring your own grill) event. Plundering a convenience store along the ride is an option (please bring currency). Trashbags! (for your plunder... and well, trash). there... fixed! ;)

Actually, there is a grill on-site, so no need to bring a grill..... more like bring stuff to grill -veggies or meat, all ok!

Unfortunately, I won't be around... but I'd so bring the biggest chicken drum-sticks and/or ribs I could find for a viking bbq!

NEXT SATURDAY!!!! Checking the weather, looks like saturday will be the first "nicer" dry day we'll have to ride all week, with even some sun! If you're up for a mellow ride, come on down! I'm 90% sure we'll only do the 10-mile flat route I'm also 100% sure that it'll be a fun potluck afterwards! Bring something to share, or some money -we always stop by a grocery store to buy whatever else we might need! Potluck usually goes until sunset Due to weather it gets cold hanging there (at potluck site), so bring something to warm up. We also try to keep a good fire to stay warm I'm also almost a 100% sure that the "VIKING POTLUCK" is the first outdoor grill/gathering in that park :) SO let's call out to Valhalla and the goddesses & gods of spring! PS: If you're planning on maybe coming, please post in here so I can do some proper-prepping!

I acquired a somewhat cool Viking-type thingy today so I am definitely going to be there on Saturday. Also a friend from down near Cumberland, MD is coming in for the the pillaging and plundering. Eric the Red rules!

So I need some quick and dirty ideas for Viking attire. If I make it, all of my prep is going to happen Saturday morning because I'm slammed at work right now. So what have other people worn in the past?
pinky

(a) I'm in the process of creating a FB page, will post here soon. (b) While viking attire is encouraged, IT IS NOT REQUIRED..... I would rather have people show up and have a good ride & potluck than not show up because they couldn't get a viking outfit ready... and as for what people have work in the past, check the online album from a previous ride.... http://www.flickr.com/photos/52453984@N05/sets/72157626360320798/ http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5175/5563091642_845630915c.jpg

Thanks for coming! While sunny tomorrow the temperatures are still nippy, so short route would be better, I think. PLUS, more time for pillaging & potluck-ing!

I had a bunch of stuff I had to do at home ans so missed it. But I was thrilled to look out my window and see actuall VIKINGS ON BIKES! Somehow they were gathing on Parkview Ave to go down to the start. Made me think there might be something wrong with my life for not just picking up and leaving with them.

we might be able to rig up something in mySpace, or a GEOcities link. Or a teletype, maybe some PunchCards & a ReeltoReel tape. ;)

As some of you who attended the Viking Ride & Potluck saturday remember, we had 2 out-of-state travelers, Joey and Emmy, who have been riding their bikes from Alaska on a year-long journey. They joined us for the Potluck with their local hosts Dan and Patricia, and for what they share in their blog, they had a good time hanging with us! Hooray for Pittsburgh & viking hospitality :) http://joeyandemmysbicycletour.weebly.com/2/post/2013/03/day-378-march-23-2013.html?

@pbeaves. I never used myspace or geocities either. My first few college classes we programmed on punchcards, and by the time we got to use the teletype it was like using a warp-drive by comparison. The first PC I used had no hard drive, you manually loaded DOS each time you turned it on, and it had 8K of memory. So there! You’ve never really learned what frustration is until you’ve successfully written and debugged a multi-hundred line program on punchcards.

Ha-ha, very true. I used to work with punch card that have nothing printed on them so if you drop pack of those -- good luck to sort it out. :) But punch tapes were even worse (PDP-11). You have to re-punch whole program again if you made an error in the middle.

Ah, the good old days of IBM 029 keypunch machines. How about pre-programmed drum cards shared by FORTRAN and COBOL programmers: One had the tab set at column 7, the others had it set at column 8. No fun in typing an entire deck, only to find out the tab was set in the wrong column. I do not miss 1978.
