There is potential that the message board might be down for some scheduled maintenance Tue, January 13, 12am – Wed, January 14, 12am.

We will do our best to keep any interruptions as minimal as possible.

Thank you.

BikePGH Staff.

Any chance the photo upload feature on this message board will be repaired by the various updates?

We are working to update the version from BBPress 2.2.2 to the current version 2.5.4.

To do this we are working with Agency 1903’s web developers / engineers who are kind enough to donate their services. Before any big changes are made we will test things on a private development site.

We hope that this will fix a number of bugs in the site and will keep everyone posted when we are ready to make changes.

I am still not seeing the icon or the functionality to load a photo. From a desktop machine, if I hover over the area in the northwest corner of the box where I’m typing, it looks like the functionality should be there, but it is not.

I have a mac and can’t use the Quote button and no picture icon. I am not complaining about it, just reporting it if that helps. Regardless, it is nice to read from other cyclists in Pittsburgh.

Is this the new infrastructure complaint thread? Awesome!

Here’s some requests:

1) have links render in-line, as opposed to way up. I’m tired of having to format my comments to avoid it.

2) the Quote format is ridiculous. This is why the html-aware of us use the “em” markup instead. Why on earth does the quote have to be larger than the current comment? Really.

3) why does the <u> markup get discarded? I mean, it’s not like enabling <script> or anything.

Uh, techies, I have a question. It doesn’t have to do with the site, but it’s on my end. All of a sudden I can’t access the website from any device in my house, iPad, laptop, cell phone. When I turn off wifi on my phone, I can access the site through 4G. Any ideas? I have turned off and restarted my router. Can a router block a site? Or could it be Verizon? Thanks.

It depends. Unless you deployed a filter on it — it should not. More likely it’s connected to DNS server. I don’t know configuration of your router but try to issue two commands in cmd.exe (assuming you have Windows):

ping bikepgh.org
ping 64.130.12.219

The first one is human-readable-format that is converted to machine-readable-format by DNS means. The second one is machine-readable-format (IP address). Both commands will try to reach computer hosting BikePGH.org. If my assumptions are correct then the first one should fail and the second one should succeed.

Both seemed to work, “approx round trip time” for either, 27 and 26 ms, 0% loss…

Have you tried rebooting the router? (turning off and restarting)
…and shouldn’t your KID know what’s wrong? (curmudgeon response)

Well, given that ping works, it’s likely that http is being blocked (by Verizon or the router). Try https://bikepgh.org, that may work. Or use the IP address in place of bikepgh.org.

What is the error message you get on your laptop when you try to access the site?

When you typed the “ping bikepgh.org”, did the response mention 64.130.12.219, not some different IP address?

I will fiddle more at home later. Thanks for the help guys.

Now that I access this site via an iPad occasionally, add my voice to the chorus wishing that the right edge of posts did not get clipped off. It’s really annoying to miss about 5 to 15% of every line. Probably a CSS setting somewhere, probably been reported by other sites a hundred times already. Can we just please get it fixed?
