If anyone sees it, can you steal it back for me please? :)

THANKS. Probably has U-lock still attached to frame since Thief cut the telephone pole cord it was locked to.

Sad day for this girl.

Serial number: WTU266C1292C

Cut the guy wire? Whoa, that’s a hazard.

There should be a reward from the power company…

Yea, I hope the pole doesn’t topple over. I rarely think about how strong the metal thing is I lock to, but I’m guessing it is almost always weaker than the U-lock itself (bike racks included). It makes me cringe when I see people U-lock to trees. Pretty sure it would only take 10 seconds to cut through a 3-inch sapling with a hand saw.

Cables are really easy to cut through, even if they are large diameter. Simple cable cutters worked in a chewing fashion around and around even the largest cable with work its way through.

Might not want to post the serial # since I can now claim that it’s mine. :)

If she doesn’t post the serial number, how am I going to find it when I google the serial number of a used bike I’m looking at?

whoa. i lock to those cables at times too. always thought it would be fairly safe as cutting it might make the pole go timber

I had to cut through my cable lock (a thick one) a week or so ago…took 10 seconds with a park tool cable cutter, the small hand-held ones. pruning shears could probably do the same.

always, but ALWAYS make sure whatever you lock to is at least as strong as the lock itself, and make sure its SECURELY attached to the ground. hopefully you have receipts of purchase and homeowners/renters insurance that will cover this…

All the more reason why we need more, real, bike racks.

I wonder if we can get the power companies to help us, in one manner or another.
