This really sounds like it's going to be a fun ride.
Tuesday, August 7th, Moonlight Ride
Monday night/Tuesday morning (Officially Tuesday August 7th)
Meet at Friendship Circle at 1am, Leave at 1:30
Slower-paced ride around town, Through Bloomfield, Strip District, North Shore, a nice loop through Downtown, South Side Flats/Works, across Birmingham Bridge and through Oakland back to Bloomfield to Finish at Ritter's.
Lights required.
Proposed route:
http://www.endomondo.com/routes/76822301
Length is just over 13 miles, there's nothing that really qualifies as a hill on the ride (Though the Birmingham Bridge always slows me way down for some reason).
I tried to include a lot of downtown/south side, because those two places are always really cool when they're empty.
I've scheduled breaks at Market Square and Schenley Plaza.
hmm, i'm gonna have to see if i can have a late start @ work on teus.
oh, and pick up some lights too.
If this ride gets people to acquire and install lights, then that alone is reason enough to do this ride.
generally coming over the B-ham into oakland is easier going 5th ave for the climb up since its one road vs the chaotic multilane scenerio that is "the forbes ave experiance", but given the hour of travel forbes should be pretty clear.
That was what I was thinking - plus, I'm comfortable using the sidewalk or bike lane on fifth by myself, but not with a group.
very true, as i realized about 4 seconds after i made that last post.
solo is doable, as a group isn't the best option.
sidewalk or bike lane on fifth
haha, clearly, I meant BUS lane.
Gah I work third shift that night, but i wanna go on a night ride so bad!! Might see about switching with someone.
I have to see how my Monday goes but I may be able to make it, since I have a late start time on Tuesdays
Top! A few days til this- a friend and I are going to try to work out the specifics at work tomorrow.
If I had someplace to sack out for a few hours in the evening, I might be tempted to try this.
@ stu you don't need sleep before the ride, no sleep is what makes it fun. I work from 6am to 6:30 pm on Monday then Family time, then off to the ride. Fu-un
Marked as a maybe...this sounds like a blast, but other plans may force me to be too drunk/out to late to catch the start. +1 about downtown being great when it's empty in the middle of the night. One of my favorite relaxing cruise zones.
Ill be there I get off of work at midnight.
Edit* no sleep for me either.
I started doing this because Monday is my Friday - So on Monday when I get home from work (which goes from 5am til 2pm), I sleep all afternoon/evening, and when I wake up, I'm bored. However, I forgot I have an appointment with my therapist this monday right in the middle of my usual nap-time, so I may also be in the no sleep party for this!
Top once more - this is tonight! I'm ready to go on an awesome ride on empty roads and then eat crappy diner food!
the weather was perfect on the way home, hopefully it'll stay that way.
Got my dates switched around in my head, thought it was tomorrow. That said, I'm a 1-in-10 chance of making it. We'll see how I'm doing around midnight. If I'm not there, don't wait for me.
We meet at 1am, leave at 1:30
I'm so tired already, my daughter said "daddies don't take naps". No nap for me see you at 1am.
Tell her that I said naps should be required by law. ESPECIALLY for parents.
id loooove to do this, especially because im practically nocturnal, but my knees are not quite right after all the hills yesterday.
i did bike to work and back today, totalling 6ish miles. my knees didnt even explode. someone tell me to quit whining and stop being so lame. i can still make it if i leave within 40 mins.
I think I'm going to this; I'd love to talk sci-fi Melange
I might be a little late, as I'm repairing a mystery flat (Found the puncture, but not what caused it - hopefully it's not one of those extra tiny and extra sharp glass shard that are invisible on your tire). But I will definitely be there by 1:30.
ok fine, stop twisting my arm! pulling the trigger, be there in 25ish mins.
great ride in idea and execution! thanks, rubberfactory!
im sorry i could join you all for shi--, er, ritters but its finally my bedtime (3:45)
Glad to meet you in person Melange and share the ride back home
Great ride RF
Also, who was the woman who kept randomly singing and making quirky comments? She was a highlight to the ride and balanced out my foray into deeper topics like how to engage drivers that aren't comfortable with us on the road
Thanks for coming everyone, there was a great turnout!
It was a fantastic ride. Thanks RuberFactory for putting this together.
Sorry I couldn't mke it. I have been so far behind on sleep since the chuch's bazaar across te street lasted until after 11pm thursday-Sunday. Glad to hear it was a good time!
yup, the pace picked up to a much quicker one than I anticipated, but I didn't mind much. party-ride pace isn't really appropriate for that hour.
Well no point in going to sleep, time to start my day. I must really love bikes to do this to myself.
Thanks RF, It was way cool!
I know why I'm awake, Marko why are you awake are you not tired as I am
For the first time in a very long time I work up with that "I didn't get enough sleep feeling" like a little sick to the stomach. I'd say it was worth it. Maybe one of the best rides I've been on this year
I just woke up, slight headache despite 8 hours.
Leftover pancakes now.
Sorry Erica I didn't ake this. After the "Ride to the Buccos" earlier I didn't get home until 11pm, and even though I tried to rally & take a nap or stay awake for 1am, I didn't make it.
Sorry I missed it
No worries, I might do it again sometime!
Also: I had a dream when I got home and went to bed that this ride was a huge disaster, that roads had deep puddles everywhere (and I didn't have shoes or a bike), that I brought food with me but someone from an Australian restaurant (?) ate it before we got to the diner, and no one was working at the diner so we had to staff it ourselves.
For those not on Facebook, there's a very good chance that will become a monthly ride, first Monday night (Tuesday morning) of each month.
might i suggest the monday night / tues morning closest to the full moon??
I don't really keep track of that.
Somehow I missed this thread prior to the ride, bummed I missed it. I usually don't have work on Tuesdays, so Monday nights are great nights of adventure for me.
I'll be there.
