well, it's just the sidewalk of the bridge, but totally rideable. it emerges right next to the Fort Pitt Museum in Point State Park. Only thing to be careful of is that it's narrow in places, and sometimes PennDOT puts detour signs in it

Yes, there is. If you go over the water bridge to the "point" side of Point State Park, look left as you come out of the tunnel near the Block House. The trail starts/ends as a ramp extending up between the Block House and the high wall adjacent to it. The trail is easy to find, but I offer a couple words of caution. Ride it once in the daylight first. The trail is narrow (at least it seems so to me) and the railing seems low (at least to me.) I'd want to have a feel for it before riding it in full dark. On the southern end, it gets a tad hairy. You will exit onto the West Carson Street sidewalk in an area of much clutter- signposts, the pedestrian overpass for the incline, etc. A short ride (one long block) will take you to the far entrance of the Station Square Complex. If you turn right at that stoplight, you'll end up picking up the South Side Trail just past the Mon Incline Parking area.

I agree with above, and as long as you keep your speed low I think it is a very pleasant & picturesque crossing. Side note: the old sidewalk on the Ft. Duquesne bridge was identical in width to the sidewalk on Ft. Pitt. I think the new Ft. D. sidewalk went in when they tore down 3-rivers stadium. So if they can do it to Ft. D., I think putting in a new sidewalk over Ft. P. to the inclines and Station Square would be awesome.

Thanks everyone! Thinking the jail trail to hot metal is a better option for me tonight but I'll have to check that out when I have more time

It's a good route, but one thing not mentioned, there are square edged steel expansion joints at each end that will give you a snakebite flat if not taken with some care!

I much prefer the Smithfield street bridge, for almost any destination, myself.
