Level 1: Fundamentals of City Cycling Class

wheelmill warmup room

The Fundamentals of City Cycling Class is here to help you with basic bike handling skills that you will need on the road.

Riding on any of our great riverfront trails can be a wonderful and relaxing experience, but navigating busy city streets can be more stressful, especially if you are not feeling confident with your bike handling abilities. Skills like starting and stopping, looking behind you, and grabbing your water bottle for a drink can be challenging to learn in the tight quarters of a busy street. The Fundamentals class will teach you the basic bike handling skills and techniques needed to allow you to focus more on traffic and less on basic bike control. We tailor the class to your group! If you’ve mastered the basics, the Wheel Mill’s veteran instructors can teach more advanced techniques such as going off of and onto curbs, jumping over obstacles, and track stands!

The Wheel Mill’s indoor venue and the class’s small-group size allow participants to learn and practice city cycling skills in a controlled, protected environment.

Riders will have time before and after the class to practice new skills in The Wheel Mill’s Fundamental Skills Room away from traffic and weather concerns. And, if you’re feeling even more confident, you can try the rest of the park too!
