lock yoUr bike

I ran into the (super friendly) pair of bike cops who patrol East Liberty today. Several of you had the chance to meet them at last summer's Try-A-Bike Jamboree.

They mentioned that bike thefts are up in the area. They said the thieves seem to be leaving U locks alone for now, but that cable locks have been vulnerable to cutting.

This is old news for a lot of you, but I'm hoping some of the newbies, especially commuting students, will consider upgrading their locks.

I haven't even seen any cable locks on CMU's campus.

What I do see, though, is a lot of securely attached front wheels with no bike attached.

time to break down and tell the bro-in-law to stop cable locking his bike on the front porch once and for all.

I have repeatedly told a guy wh locks his bike up where I work with a ulock and a cable lock totally wrong (he uses the cable lock to lock the bike to the fence and the ulock is holding the looped ends of the cable lock together.. The ulock Not locking to anything else) that he needs to use the ulock properly. I think he said he lives over your way, pseuda. I really hope he takes his bike in at night or that he doesn't lock that bike up the same way if he shops in the east end.

Those cops were cool. I always a try to smile and wave to them and the ones I see on the north side. It is funny that I always see the north side bike cops leaving their bikes outside of businesses on east ohio street without being locked up.... For hours they sit in the same spot. I guess they aren't concerned about them being stolen.

The ole lock the cable lock with the u-lock trick is the dumbest thing and I've seen it many times.

Here's one I saw in East Liberty. A bad place to park a nice bike the wrong way.

Awfully nice bike to leave locked up so poorly.

!!! What are these people thinking! They went to a lot of effort to lock the bike in a ridiculously useless way, it would have been easier to lock it in a really secure way. They do have plenty of water though.

Yeah the guy at work doesn't even put the ulock thru the front wheel. It blows my mind. I want to leave a diagram for him of the correct way.

That will be one very hydrated bike thief.

Where's he live?

Is it a nice bike?

What time does he leave for work?

Enquiring minds need to know!

edit to JF post:

Sky is blue, except in pittsburgh where is it usually some shade of gray, or milky white...

Or were you speaking of sky in another geographical location, or simply in generic terms?
