Verona Road Shortcut - Warning

This morning was the second time within 3 months I have been traveling (via car) on Verona road between Saltzburg and Wildwood/ARB, and a large SUV decided I wasn't going fast enough (at the posted speed of 35 mph) and they decided to pass me, crossing a double yellow line, and sideswiping my car. Paint transfer only, very luckily. He/She was easily going 50-60mph, on a road where people wait for busses (including children), and there is no sidewalk. Oh - and both are hit and runs, neither stopped.

This time I got the plate#, and will report it the second I get home. (I reported the other, just not much they can do without the plate#)

Anybody who uses that plus Third Ave as a shortcut to get off ARB and try and escape the harrowing highway-like traffic, I'm sad to say it's probably not any safer. At least ARB has shoulders and a decent line of sight.

Unfortunately for these jackasses, I live there, I'm pissed as hell they're using my neighborhood as a high-speed short cut, and I will be the most obnoxious resident in my municipality until I see cops posted and stopping speeders regularly enough that there are no more regular speeders. That or stopsigns often enough to slow people down, or speed humps, or whatever. I really don't care how they do it.

I can't stop road rage. I can't stop bike muggings. I can't stop "children" from bowling for cyclists and beating them senseless for "fun". I can't get my municipality to build sidewalks or paint sharrows or even clean the few shoulders there are. But if I have to pay for the stop signs and put them up myself I will not let these assholes use my street as a highway deathtrap.

sorry for the rant, but I know a few people use that on bikes, and felt the warning was due.

please be safe out there.

That's messed up. Good for you getting the plate.
